Is the Power Plenum spreading to Lexus?
Is the Power Plenum spreading to Lexus?
That polarizing shield first seen last year on our beloved RL refresh has spread to almost all the Acura's. Now I see it emerging on the new HS250 (although somewhat better implemented).

Is Lexus coping Acura coping Saturn? I think this look is here to stay for a while guys. Get used to it.

Actually, now that I think of it, the up coming cars in the Lexus lineup (HS, 2010 RX, and IS convertible) aren't aesthetically pleasing either. The HS looks like a mix between the Corolla and Matrix, the RX just looks odd and bloated and the IS convertible looks unproportional. So it makes me feel a lot better about the current Acuras.

The IS convertible definitely looks like an afterthought. Like one of those cars that someone customized to turn it into a convertible. What they should've done is make a 2-door coupe version of it and make it look more aggressive (G37, 3-series).
From my understaning, the whole IS line does share the Corolla platform. When I was in Iraq, there was a Toyota that was similar to the Corolla (but more upscale) and the IS. I can't remember the name of the car, if someone knows what I'm talking about please help
Anyway, I would guess that the IS/HS is more of descendant of that car.

As a big Lexus fan I would agree that the HS, IS-C and to a lesser degree the 10 RX don't look all that great. Weird since IMO the ES, LS, and IS all look awesome. I think the GS looks junky and it is like the designer(s) of these 3 new models is responsible for the GS rather than the designer(s) of the ES, LS, IS.
I tell you, as a long time Lexus owner, (IS300, SC300, SC400, GX470, SC430, and GS400) I can say that Lexus has lost it's direction as much as Acura on a few of it's models IMO. The one reason I chose an RL over the GS430 is the bloated style of the design. The RL to me looks great, even aggressive from some angles (not talking 09 here).
The IS convertible is a travesty. Now some cars do look better in person vs print, but I would be amazed if that IS-C looked even better than a Corolla in person. The new RX is ok with me, especially the 400hp hybrid and V8.

How they sell even 1 is beyond me.
That's the only Lexus that gets my attention. The LS is impressive because of it's size and luxury, but it's not unique looking enough to be spotted on a crowded highway.
