Ordered Takeda Intake

After watching 037's video of his Takeda intake on his 09 I fell in love and had to have that sound! Contacted Josh at Excelerate and he told me the one to buy for the 2G 05-08 is the intake for the TL 04-08. Ordered it today and will put up a video and some pics when I install it this weekend.

For anyone that already has one installed, is it difficult to reach the filter to remove & clean it?

It's a short ram intake so it's easily accessible in the engine bay. As for cleaning, it is more difficult than swapping a new filter into the stock air box, but it is still quite easy.

I guess I looked at the wrong one on Excelerate's website! My bad! In that case, I have no idea.

Ok, so how much bang do you get for your buck? If it all noise, that is not much.

I think it was $246 with shipping. Takeda says 7hp and 14lbs of torque. Not a ton of hp but I like the torque figure.

We like torque...real hp on the road. I didn't mean to be facetious about the noise comment, I just wanted to know if there were any real gains in performance. I used to have a AEM cold air intake on my CRX and it added a lot to the performance of the 1600 engine. Keep us posted on what your results are.

Does that cold air come with that valve to keep the water out of the engine. I believe its the bypass valve but not 100% on that.

On my old car, I never installed the bypass valve and it was fine. As long as you don't drive through big puddles, you shouldn't ever get water in the engine.

Yes, I'm always more excited with torque.

Don't know if it comes with the valve or not.

UPS comes around 6pm and I'm figuring about 2hrs. I will have some more info up tomorrow. Going to start taking the old intake off to get ready.

Just take a pic of every step that's in the instructions. You may want to have a friend take pix while you do the steps labeled in the instructions. Make better sense now? Congrats.. You'll love the added 14hp/14tq (could be a little more on 3.5/3.7 who knows) and like you said hearing VTEC happen then go into a whale of a song is mean and glorious indeed... everyone thinks Infiniti's V-6's soud good and they do in their own right but top-end they can get coarse sounding. Acura V-6's sound good all the way yup to 7000rpm rev limiter. This intake will give you less mpgs... Not because the intake wont improve mpg because it will but you'll tend to floor it more ofter to hear it as my friends always said growing up with vtec hondas/acuras. You'll be spraying vtec every chance you get.

I had a Secret Weapon Short RAM in my 02 TL-S and that thing sounded mean. Even when the car is idling, you can hear the low humming. In cold weather, when the car first starts to drive, you can hear the low humming WITH the "SSSSSSSS" sound, which was the result of the car sucking in air. I did floor it more often, in the beginning, but under normal driving, the MPG went up by a little.

I'd love to gain more torque in my RL, but I'd hate to lose the quietness of the vehicle.

WCOY: Could you also take a video, after your install, so I can hear how loud the intake is at idle? Thanks in advance!!

See same 6800rpm. fuel cut-off happens at 7000. I know this very well., Worked for acura and this has been redline since j32 In CL-S. My 6spd was same as yours too and again now in 08n TL.

037-

You need to redo that video but leave your stereo off... I can hear the intake, but can't really get a good sense of what it sounds like because the stereo is up too loud.

My impression is that it sounds good.

Did it do anything for power or xis it purely a change in sound?

here is the intake with less radio noise and a little bit more of a wall bounce

Sounds great, IS that strictly from a replacement air intake, or is the exhaust also modified?

14hp/14tq. Sure you get power ow whats the need in buying one? Those numbers are on TL. I'd think power gains are more on the J37 since it employs vtec on both Intake/Exhaust valves vs. Intake valves only on J35. Ii would be my guess J35 will be same gains as J32 and J37 more unless they made changes to stock intake on 09+ which I doubt.

No it does not from what I've been told. Even if it does, you can't hear from inside the car.

Here is a dyno... This is of the TL Type S so same motor as most RL's. Those with J37 will yield a litle more power duh to VTEC on Intake/Exhaust valves.

As you see the short ram sees a big jump in low-end and mid-range torque. This is what's used more in day 2 day driving than top-end which sees a decent jump as well which will help when passing on 2-lane road or gaining speed on a freeway on-ramp.

Interesting... thanks! My 02 TL-S Secret Weapon intake made this loud hummmmmmm sound at idle. You can hear it from inside the house... that's how I used to know if my remote starter started the car.

My AEM did this on my s2000. It tends to be the case with cold air intakes and not SRI.

as far as power, I personally can't feel any difference w/ SRI and UR pulley installed. My GT2 has not been recording lower vs stock, if nothing else, it got slower.

Bottom line, it's worth it for the sound alone and improves mileage slightly. If not by application, then by simply alerting me when I'm revving too high as I can actually hear it over 3k.

Plus seeing people jump out of the way when you stump it is fun too, stock you can barely hear at 6k and that's
