No More Beep When Locking Using Remote

I have a 2005 RL. Up until about two weeks ago whenever I locked the car using the remote control the doors would lock, the rear lights would flash and I would hear a beep. Now the doors lock but no flashing lights and no beep.

Is there anything I might have done unintentionally (change some setting) to cause this change or is this a problem for the dealer to fix?

You can select BEEP or no BEEP on locking doors in the MID CUSTOMIZE MENU. Toggle through the menus for KEYLESS ACCESS SETUP.

Somehow this got turned off.

also make sure FOB is still paired to Driver 1
Does it show Welcome Driver 1 at startup?

I checked all settings on the customize menu and flash lights is On and beep is On but still no flashing lights or beep. (The door does lock though.)

I also checked that I have the driver 1 FOB.

Any other possibilities?

just to clarify, the FOB1 can be "depaired" from the Driver 1 settings.
You need to make sure the MID shows "Welcome Driver 1". If not, repair the FOB - there's instructions in the Quick Start Guide

The instructions to re-pair are on the back of the fob as well.

good info - also thanks for use of "re-pair". Just realized my post could be interpreted as repair (fix) the FOB instead of re-pair

The car does recognize FOB #1 when I have that with me and FOB #2 when I have that one with me. Both FOBs work. The doors lock using either FOB but no beep and no flashing lights with either FOB.

Peter,

If your FOB is linked (Welcome Driver 1 or 2) and your MID shows BEEP ON or LIGHTS FLASH ON, then there may be an electronic defect the dealer will need to repair. Perhaps is is a simple connection or fuse?

Just to be certain, here is the online copy of the 2006 RL manual. The BEEP and LIGHTS FLASH instructions are on pages 110-111. If you have you manual (or access online) the 2005 RL version, it is possible there are differences in the set up.

Also, just speculating further, was there any changes made to the vehicle's security system or ignition system that may have impacted this feature?

An unlinked fob will still work to unlock/lock/start the car - it just won't be able to access any settings preferences or audio presets.

Check the stuff Tampa recommended in the post above this.

My '05 doesn't beep on the first touch of the lock button, but has always beeped on the second touch of the button...I believe this is the way it's supposed to work, but haven't checked out the manual.

I appreciate all of the suggestions here. To address some of them...

My car does say Welcome Driver 1 (or 2) so that tells me the FOBs are linked properly. True??

All of the settings pertaining to beeps and flashing lights are turned on. Same settings for my 2005 RL as in the 2006 manual listed above.

No changes were made to my car's security or ignition system.

As Bluemule said above there is normally no beep on the first press of the lock button on the FOB. The beep normally doesn't happen until the 2nd press of the button. In my case there's no beep (or light flash) on the 2nd press, 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc.

One day everything was normal. The next day no beep, no light flash.

Then, there is a problem.
I assume there is no beep when you use the dimple on the handle as well?

Have you tried new batteries for the remote? (bluemule ducking for cover before hitting the submit reply button)

yup - duck
Low battery in remote should give warning in MID

to the OP - have you tried changing the settings to no beep and then changing back?

Solution

The solution (as I think someone suggested) was to turn the beep OFF on the menu then turn it back ON.

I don't know what caused that to be necessary but that did fix the problem with both the beep and flashing lights.

Thanks to all for the help!
