Thumbs down New Key - $500????

I just called my dealer, Paragon Acura in Queens, because I lost one of my keys/remotes over the weekend. The service rep told me that a new one would cost $500 with parts and labor. He stated that one hour of labor to program the key is $125 and the parts are $375. Is this my only option?!?!?!

SOMEBODY please lead me in the right direction...

when i got my RL, the dealer also told me that if i lost the key, it would cost 500 to replace..so i'm guessing it's a set price.

I'll have to make sure when I get my RL the previous owner supplies me with the spare.

we charge $75 to program them and the transponder is $315 key is $45. Thats a little cheaper. You can also go to www.keylessride.com and check with them. They charge $289 for the transponder but you have to get the key and programming done by a dealer. So you could save like $90 or just go through your dealer and be done with it. You should tell them though that you can save by doing this and ask them to match. I know what we pay for the transponders so they should agree

x2 Awesome tip.

BTW, my dealer gave me the same price when I asked about the spare key. I immediately elected to hide the second key fob from the wife, who has a tendency to lose keys and prefers to drive her car anyway.

If I were you I'd go with the floormats instead and save on the labor.

They are awesome especially for less expensive fobs. Some are over 50% off of dealer prices. Even though I work for a dealer, I often send people here for replacements!

Does anyone know if the keylessride.com transponders are the Acura original parts or an aftermarket item?

They are OEM transponders and come without the removable key. You have to get the key and the programming done by the dealer.

Are the oem transponders smaller than the acura ones? I hate how large and bulky the original one is. If you put it on the same key ring with the keys and remote needed for another vehicle, it's too large to pocket.

Thanks BACKFIRE!!

I just ordered the parts from www.hondapartsunlimited.com and my total with tax and shipping was $241.25.

This is a start. Now I just have to get those greedy bastards at the dealership to make it work!

You all do know that all you have to do is go onto acura com
click on the estore link
choose your zipcode and choose your dealer of choice
click on the order parts button
type in key and you' can buy a new key for

KEY, IMMOBILIZER (MAIN)(BLANK)
$34.25 Dealer Price
PartNumber 35111-SJA-305

pay for it online and go pick it up when it gets shipped to the dealer.

once you get it all you have to do is get it cut and programmed to your vehicle
you can go to the stealership or a bonded locksmith.

This isn't the cost for the replacement FOB.
