My RL likes to screw with me

I swear my RL likes to screw with me! So on Thursday my check engine light comes on and then 5 minutes later the SHAWD (dont know the code for that) light comes on. Once I got home I pulled the engine light and it was a P0401 EGR insufficient flow (I know about the TSB ) and called the Acura dealer to make an apt for Monday (today). So the lights stayed on the entire weekend during all 311 miles of driving…..I start her up to take her to the dealer this morning and BOOM!!!! No more lights. So it is at the dealer now (with no lights on) but so help me if they call me and say the lights currently are not on so there is nothing we are going do……….
This is how I see it going down. They will call and say nothing is wrong and then when my warranty runs out on Nov 1st the lights will come back on and I am sure they will stay on when I take it to the dealer and at that point I am sure they will find something and want to complete the list of replacements under the PO401 TSB article.

Thanks for listening to my ranting.

you can always extend your warranty or check if it's covered by the warranty extension as part of a bad odometer issue.

If your car registers a warning, the error code remains in the ECU until it is cleared, even if the warning lights are intermittent.

The dealer should be able to diagnose the issue with the Honda Diagnostic System. There are several members who reported engine warning lights, SHAWD warnings, etc., linked to an EGR.

Thanks for the info. What year is your RL and where did you find the info about the TSB? I saw the link to the tech bulletins in the sticky at the top of the forum, is it in one of those?

I have the same problem. Both lights came on around 49,000 miles (2005 RL). The dealer said I should get new injectors and EGR...$915 w/o tax. Please give me the TSB info..it could save me lots.

it is listed in the TSB thead
http://www.in.honda.com/rjanisis/pubs/SB/B08-006.pdf

A TSB doesnt mean they will fix it for free. It just advises your dealer how to go about fixing it. My car was under warranty still when this happened to me.

The federal National Trasportation dept has a site for one to find ALL tech service bulletins...for ANY car.

See: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/tsbs/

Also see all the other things you can find out...look down the left side.

Did they charge you anything?

Were you still within warranty?

If not, and they didn't charge you, how to you get them to do this for free? Thanks.
