My Kb2 was stolen today FML

Long story short, got ready for work started the car and went inside to pickup my bag and in 30 seconds someone jumped in and stole my car. F**ing scumbags. This happened in London, ON by the way. Already filed police report and went looking for the car with no luck. Hopefully it will be found.

Update: car was recovered last night, looks like some POS took it for a joy ride. No exterior damage, sob jammed a screwdriver in glove box lock and broke it and stole bunch of other worthless stuff.

One never thinks that something like this could happen and then it happens. Anyway, i feel that people these days have no regard for safety of others. What if there was a child in back seat? As far as negligence on my part, it may have saved my life or from being seriously injured, what if the guy had a knife or a gun? So the lesson here is to be mindful of your surroundings and never let you guard loose. On the other hand I am grateful to have my car back in one piece, not everyone is lucky. Few months ago in my friend's street thieves stole 3 lexus suv from driveway at night by cloning the keys. Read here

That's kind of an odd way to rationalize it...

Look guys I know that it was my fault that i left my car unattended for short time, i am just saying it could have been worse. Because the guy who stole my car came fully prepared (he was fully dressed in black even had gloves on, police found used gloves in my car). I am guessing he only left the car because he didn't have the keys, i always keep my keys in my pocket.

I'm sorry you went through this, and I won't preach. In a perfect world, this wouldn't happen.

I will take this as a chance to say you're not at all the only one this happens to. Police have said that many car thefts are crimes of opportunity. People routinely leave their cars unlocked, jump out of them while they're idling to cross the street or somesuch, and there are people who lay in wait for that. Good for all of us to remember.

I thought cars with keyless ignition systems were supposed to shut off if someone tried to shift into drive when the key isn't in the car?

Either way, honest people like you OP always get taken advantage of by the bad guys. Shame the world works like that.

I think that might be the case in today's cars. But the tech in RL is 20 years old now and i agree with what you said about the world now. People these days have no principles whatsoever.

I’ve left the car running out front waiting for the windows to defog. Always makes me nervous but I do it anyway.

Lock car with 2nd set of keys is my cunning plan.

The way it works with all cars that have a proximity "smart" key: If the engine is on, when the key leaves the car, you'll see a warning on the dash, but the engine stays on until it is manually turned off. This is a safety issue because if the engine were to cut out automatically, it might cause an accident. Of course, as soon as the engine is turned off, it can't be turned on again.

That said, it's best not to leave the engine running unattended unless you know for sure it's in a safe place.
