Didnt know they did this...

So today i was running a little late and was in a hurry to get to class. When i got on campus, i started looking for a parking spot which usually is a pain, but today i found one a few blocks from the main building on campus, SCORE! So i was happy that i wasnt going to be late. Fast forward four hours later, im done with classes and i go to my car. I go to where i thought i left it, but the spot was empty. For a second i thought i had parked somewhere else and started walking around feeling like an idiot. A few minutes later, it dawned on me that i wasnt wrong, i HAD parked right where i though i did BUT MY CAR WAS GONE! i was like WTF!!! I started to panic! I called my sister since she only lives a block off campus and thought maybe she saw it on the way home and needed it for some reason, she has the spare key. She tells me no shes at home and hasnt touched my car, i hung up and really start to panic! I was like who the hell steals a new VW in the middle of a busy campus? Then i got pissed I had no idea what to do so i called 911 and after being treated like an idiot by the dispatcher, she tells me my car was "relocated". I was like WTF? impounded? no, they moved it! i asked, what does that mean? And she said, you parked in a temporary Tow Zone, they were doing tree maintenance today and i had to park in front of the only tree on that block that was being serviced!!!, and they moved the car. So it turns out they towed my car three blocks west and neatly parked it in between two other cars, keep in mind i parallel parked so there was a car both in front and behind me. I did not know they did this. How they managed to pull my car out and repark it is mind boggling to me. So yeah, $50 ticket for parking in a temp tow zone>impound lot

Cliffs:
-Late
-Parked in tow zone
-thought car got stolen
-car was moved three blocks west from one parallel parking spot to another w/o key (???x10000000)
-$50 ticket
-sad/happy/pissed/relieved

Sounds a lot better than paying impound fees.

And for all you know they just unloaded your car and others parked around you.

that seems to be the only logical explanation. But my schools in the middle of a residential city area where public driving is at a premium and you can almost never find a spot on campus which makes the fact that they had enough room to park the car properly even less likely. They parked it pretty well...

You know they don't open the car up, they just drag it onto the flatbed right ?? Don't know how they parked it so nicely, but without the keys, there must have not been any cars in front or behind where they dropped it off...

<--- has had his car towed before...

What university is it? That's good though they treated your car nice Remind me not to drive on a busy day to your campus in downtown Chicago then.

I'm just curious how your car alarm didn't go off.

Damn, thats crazy. But at least it wasnt put in an impound where they would have destroyed it and told you, "thats how we got it."

Geez they could have put up a friggen "DO NOT PARK: Tree Work" sign or something. So will they do the same for street maintenance? Just come through with a bulldozer and scoop up the traffic then close off the road for work?

EDIT: Go figure. Depaul, Horizo... ERRRR "Big East"

I'm going to class now, and I expect flaming when I get. Amazing where 2 students who grew up 20 yards from each other can end up. Hey, we have the Cubs!
