Middle "storage" box (coin holder?) won't stay closed

Anyone know how to fix the little mid-console storage box so it stays closed on an Acura RL 2008?

You are probably going to have to provide more information to get a meaningful response. Otherwise you are going to get answers like mine; buy a new latch or glue it closed.

Oemacuraparts.com has every little part you could dream of.

Are you talking about the bottom of the cup holder?

The locking clip are the same for both cigarette lighter and coin box. Do a search for the part number its like $4 bucks each. The original ones were crap so they change the internal design. The new ones are better.

Part number is 77297-SJA-003

I bought it from here:

http://www.hondapartsunlimited.com for under $4. Dealer wanted $9 for it.

Just contacted our local acura dealer and they have the same part for $7. I plan to pick up tonight and see if I can get it replaced. Thanks for the info!

Thanks to everyone about the information on this small issue. I bought my part locally and had it fixed in about 30 minutes. I'm new here and really appreciate all of your wisdom on the RL's!

Now can someone please tell me the 'how-to' on an 04 TL w nav? I've only seen 2nd Gens and 08's RLs on the threads I've searched and the part # from Hondapartsunlimited say's it does not fit my vehicle. Thank you!

Stupid question here, but have you asked the TL guys?

If so, post a pic of it and we will try to figure it out. LoL

Yes. I had a blonde moment. I have 7 tabs open looking for info in this thread. Think I should post over there.

However, I don't even see a latch in the diagram.

Does this work on the 2006? I called to order and the dealer said this part isn't specified on the 2006, just the 2005. I could get a whole console for $275 if I wanted, instead.

I'm on a road trip and the door stopped closing on me just today. Yesterday the fob battery went low - hard to find a battery on Xmas day!

Pretty sure there is no difference. Worst case, you would be out $4 if there was.

The specified part worked on my 2006, even though the dealer sheet indicates only for 2005. It's a little "claw" that grabs the end of the lids' swing arm. It's supposed to ratchet closed and then pop open to release when the lid is pressed. The replacement part was the same size, but a slightly different appearance which is of no consequence.

So, if your Not An Ashtray lid won't close, use the Honda Part Number 77297-SJA-003. $9 at the Acura dealer.

Good Luck & Thanks to those who posted the Part Number!

I'm adding a photo that may help others. This photo is of part # 77297-SJA-003. This part came up as not a fit for my model (2006 RL) per the catalogs of two parts suppliers but it was indeed the correct part for my car.

Hello all......I just purchased an 06 RL and I am a newbie here on the forum. My " not an ash trey " and my drink holder lid will not stay closed. I see on this thread the part number for the not an ash trey but I have looked at this thing a couple of times and dont see any latches.......I guess I am a bit slow....can someone explain how to actually perform the fix? Or how I can remove the not and ash trey so I can work on it....

Also is the drink holder cover the same scenario? Same latch?

Thanks!
