Steering Wheel Memory Position

So for the memory settings on my'08 RL, I have a certain position for the steering wheel that I like right? I adjust the steering column, save the memory settings using the "Driver 1" button, and turn off the car. When I do, the steering wheel retracts into the default position. When I turn the car on, the steering wheel returns to the position I told it to memorize and everything's dandy while driving. It's just kind of annoying having the steering wheel extend and retract every time I turn the car on/off because this never happened on my old '07 RL - when I'd select a memory setting for the steering wheel, it'd stay there even when the car would be turned on/off. This isn't a major issue by any means but I was wondering if there was any way I could have it stay in place.

When you unlock the car and get in does it say welcome driver 1?

This can be configured in the MID. The reason it retracts to the fully upward position when you turn off the car is to make it easier to get in/out so you rub the wheel. Maybe for those us who have uh, big stomachs. You can turn off this behavior in the MID settings.

What are the "MID" settings and how can I access them?
