we have something that started this weekend on our 2006 RL. In the past the locks have been flawless but starting Friday when we got out of the car and pressed either of the FOBs, -> UNLOCK it will cycle the locks as always but sometimes -> LOCK does nothing on either FOB. If we open and close the driver's door it will start working again where it locks when when we press LOCK on either FOB. Then we noticed that everytime we took off from a stop the locks would cycle softly. Next a few miles later we noticed that if we pressed the lock / unlock switch on the door when driving the driver door was not locking but the other 3 doors were - hence the soft sound. I moved the driver's door lock manually a few times and it has worked Ok ever since but I am concerned that since this happened a couple of times during the weekend we may have a part going bad. Any ideas based on others who might have similar issues?

 

To go the easy and free route with out changing anything, I'd say your car needs to be re-booted by pulling the battery cable.

 

Try the re-boot first, if that doesn't do it, look at the TSB in the garage:

What you describe is very similar to what I had happening on my '05, dealer took care of it since I noticed it the day I picked it up.

 

Do you know the cause of the TSB? It sounds to me like the door lock switch is malfunctioning, and since the driver door controls all the other doors in this car, it could very well be the culprit.

 

007, The cause of the TSB is 2 fold - at least on the '05. 1 Is the transmission position range sensor which triggers the auto lock out of park etc (but affects the door locking in general) and something in the drivers fuse panel - for '-05 they have the tech replace the entire panel... to the tune of $600 for whole setup, but if I remember the '06 it's just the range switch going bad which is a whole lot cheaper.

Another symptom I had on mine was that with the auto door locks turned on (lock when leaving park, and unlock when entering park) sometimes the doors would lock randomly while driving...

Hopefully this will at least get you pointed in the right direction!

 

About a month ago my auto locking stopped working.So locking stopped working so now when i lock the car the lights do not go on like they use to and dont hear the little beep when i close it.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

I tried the battery reset but same thing still no auto lock or beep with the lights when i lock it.

 

Ok, so when you get in does it recognize that you are Driver 1 or 2 on the MID?

 

After the reset it does display driver 1...
