Key Fob intelligence
Key Fob intelligence
There are numerous members (and non-members) who own more than one Acura and would then have more than one key fob. With new versions of ILX, RLX, RDX and MDX all making debuts I was thinking that it would be a feature to have a fob programmed for all models. This way you would only need one fob and it worked for any of your cars.
I prefer the RL system of the proximity system and I never get the fob out of my briefcase or pocket to operate the car. The opposite extreme is the MDX system which we all agree is pre-historic. So take the best system they can come up with and make it operate on all of your cars. This would also be a selling point for you to add a second Acura to your garage.

I once put a lot of effort into finding out who made the decision to put red turn signals at the rear of an MDX even though Acura knows that it is safer to use amber. It was like fighting city hall or trying to get someone to take responsibility in a large corporation. I got the impression that the decision was made by a commitee and therefore nobody has responsibility.
Acura HQ would do better to monitor this forum than to get written suggestions because they have no way of inputting what people want or suggest.
The red text is sarcasm. FYI
Your best bet is to call Acura care, most service managers are not interested in anything more than selling service.
This would be a cool idea, but could be a nightmare if a criminal found a way to reprogram one fob LoL
Now if you want to pick your battles, jump on the navigation lawsuit. haha

Additionally, why do we need the fob to be the primary instrument? The proximity could be read by a credit card sized device in your wallet and leave the master key either at home or take it with you for emergencies.

It could certainly be done with smart card sized devices or smaller, but the fob serves as backup with its transmitter and physical key. Imagine forgetting to touch the dimple when you leave your car so it's not locked... having the transmitter is nice so you don't have to walk back to touch your car to lock it. It also allows you to lock/unlock from inside a house or other building as long as you're close enough. The physical key of course is needed for when your battery dies. Can't ever be without that!
There is no reason why this wouldn't work if all cars had the same unit which I believe they are migrating to. I'm pretty sure the ILX has it and I think the RDX too. There is nothing special about the process besides maybe needing an HDS.
Megatron, did you have to use an HDS?

It is time to do away with keys altogether except for mechanical intervention. If you have too many keys then you are doing it all wrong:
I go to work with the fob in my briefcase and never see a key. Close the garage door with Homelink, open the RL because my fob is close by, open the gate at work with a proximity detected card, swipe another card to enter the facility building. Not one key involved, those days are over.
But what about when the days of carrying a brief case are over?
I only regularly use a physical key to open the mail box. I hate carrying the keys I do have, but they are all necessary in the case of unusual circumstances, and I also have found having a bottle opener handy more than once.

You don't need a bottle opener if you wear a wedding band - the ring is a discreet version that serves the same purpose as a bottle opener.
haha, pouches or foopas? either way, I'd keep those in your own fap bank.
@ this thread. Thoughts:
Briefcases and button ups are for people who work too hard for their money.
My Aggie ring would be more likely to open the bottle, but I haven't figured out the technique that doesn't cut off my finger. I can do it with a lighter, but I don't carry those anymore.

It's not a purse. It's a satchel.
Foopa or FUPA?
Heavy wins this thread.
