JPipe install = Super Easy...PCDs install = EPIC FAIL

So today I tried to install both the jpipe and pcd's. Apparently I need to do some research on how the hell anyone got the stock cats out.

I succeeded on the jpipe at least...took all of 30 minutes.

PCD problem:

1st: I'm not even sure how anyone could get the rear stock primary cat out (closest to the fire wall). I'm guessing a ninja from Japan would be needed to work some crazy ninja trick on not only unclipping the top sensor, but also somehow managing his way to unbolt the dang thing.

2nd: The front primary cat almost appeared to be a snap...until reality kicked in. I was able to get all the nuts off the dang thing, but then found that you need to be an expert in Tetris to get that thing out. I tried taking the heat shields off. I got them off...but couldn't get them out from the primary cat's way. Complete failure.

So I'll be either researching on here from someone with details on how they got it out...(please tell me they didn't have to remove the dang engine) or taking it somewhere to have someone else attempt it (which is unlikely to happen since I would be driving without cats).

nope, you are correct.
play tetris for both front and rear.
heat shield needs to come off the rear cat, before you can wiggle it out.

I had a buddy help me.
I was laying on the floor, while my buddy navigated the cat from the engine bay.
the rear has to drop from the bottom.

did you remove the fans on the radiator?

hhmmm, after doing some more searching, I'm not sure I even want to bother putting these pcd's on. I hear a lot of people say it ends up giving you rasp...not sure it's worth all that, I'm in an RL, not a civic, lol.

For the front remove AC fan, unbolt but don't remove the other fan, and the front will slide out. No need to remove the heat shield from the front. For the rear good luck getting it from the bottom! It's not possible period. It must be removed for
Up top. Remove the heat shield from it, you must also remove the strut bar which involves removing the windshield wiper cowl and ALL plastics from engine bay! It's a bitch but it will wiggle out! Be patient! It will work! Ask me how I know! I did it by myself in my driveway took me 10+ hours but it worked! Hope this helps! As for sensor clips they unclip just wiggle wiggle wiggle!

^ should have thought of that before! Worth the 469+ IMHO lots of power freed up from it, will I uninstall to put stock? Probably not! Rasp? Nope none! But with the thinner material you do hear exhaust flow through the pcd which can sound like rasp to some! As for the RL vs Civic comparison: lol funny! Good luck man

lol...I saw this vid of a TL that had pcd and jpipe...it literally sounded like a civic with no resonators/full exhaust and no cats. That's why I said that...not trying to say the RL could stoop down to the civic.

On another note, yes, I should have thought of it before, but I honestly figured..."hey, it's a bigger motor and most bigger motors sound just as good/if not better when you open them up".

So it looks like I'll just be selling these pcd's. It's not worth it to me to get around 15hp with a 4000lb car.

I've been modding for a long time, you think I'd learn my lesson by now. I'll just sell the pcds. I think I'm too lazy at this point to take the jpipe off, I'll keep that probably.

Haha no I hear ya man it's a bigger headache than its worth my prob is I was in to deep to go back!
That's not to say I wouldn't have done this mod, I just would have ponied up the cash and paid someone to deal with it! That being said my biggest prob was the strut bar, lack of tools and stripped exhaust bolts, the rest is simple unbolt and what have you, great mod for 469 but not for the average modder on the RL!

shoot...I can't make up my mind. I'll sit on it for a while, just saw this vid and it sounds decent...guess that TL had some crap exhaust.

Here's the vid of the RL with just jpipe/pcd's and stock exhaust

Here's the rasp I was talking about on this car...you hear it just as he takes off (TL). I'm honestly surprised it sounded that bad...he had a comptech, it's not a bad company:

hhmmm...what to do what to do

On another note, I noticed while under the car there was quite a bit of oil trail on the underside of the car. I couldn't pin point where it was coming from. I've been checking my oil since I bought the car in April, it's still good and I'm at 40% for the maintenance. I know it wasn't tranny oil, didn't have that color or smell to it...unless the tranny oil was replaced with crap oil from the previous owner

I'll have Acura check it out when I go in soon for the oil change

I can't call it rasp because it doesn't come out from the mufflers you just hear the flow from the pcd because that material is so much thinner than the oem units, I had the same sound from my mugen header on the s2000.. After market header anything you will hear the flow out of the runners.. I like the sound although it sounded weird at first like exhaust leak but it's grown on me and the power from those the j pipe and pulley omg just suck it up and do it I'll help from here!!!

Well, I was going to give it a try today, but I started a bit late and got caught up looking for where this oil leak was coming from.

On a side note, I took pics of the beauty Jpipe for kicks

wish I could I must have pulled a wire on one of my o2 sensors. I have a p2243 coming up for check emissions. I think that may be the rear primary sensor?

Also, it says my SH-AWD isn't working now...does it not work because my check engine light came on? I feel all the power going to the front wheels...hence my front wheels spin out.

wish I did man...but it was a real PITA, didn't have time for pics. I never took the strut tower bar off though...I searched and noticed some people did.

For the front I had to take my front bumper off to get to the under part of the fan to remove the bolts and disconnect the sensors. Once you have that left fan off (when looking at the engine from the front), it is a breeze to take that front cat off from the top.

The rear one was a bit of a pain. I had to twist and turn to get those heat shields off...once that came off, I was able to get the cat out from underneath (also removed the heat shield that goes around the axle.)

Ahhhh, new update, I fixed the CEL issue. The rear top a/f sensor's wires had got a little frayed while I was thrashing shit around back there. Fixed and damnnnnn, this car feels way different now. The pcd and jpipe combo give you the torque down low, mid range and top end gains. The car feels like it wants more rpms to take use of.
