Issue after master cylinder recall work done

Driving home last night I sensed something strange in the brake pedal right after the master cylinder recall work was done. Upon initial application of the brake pedal I sensed a slight vibration in the brake pedal. It almost felt like the brake pedal was rubbing against something. I was sitting in traffic and it occurred upon light application of the pedal only at the beginning of the stroke. There was no adverse effect on the car or the braking just the pedal vibration. Any words of wisdom for me.

+1 on the obvious, take it back before they get the idea that you broke it.

Vibration after MBC Recall

Don't worry about the vibration too much. I too felt the vibration after they fixed my peddle. Most of the vibration disappeared after 2-3 hours of driving (and normal breaking). I would get it checked out if it continues after several days of driving, especially if you don't notice the sound/vibration getting less and less.

I have a '05 RL, btw.

Do both of what's suggested above. Call your service advisor immediately. Tell him about the vibration and make a service appointment for a few days out. Let him know it started as soon as you left after the recall service. If the vibration disappears, cancel the appointment. If not, go.

Take it back! Our RL had the same vibration after the update, which I noticed as soon I left the dealership. Since I live 90 miles away I did not want to see if it would go away and then have to drive 180 more miles to get it corrected. Took it back immediately. Took another hour, during which they said they re-bled the system. Vibration was gone and brakes have been fine now for over two months. So, maybe it will go away, but apparently it's the result of a poor bleeding job. I would have it attended to NOW.

I have noticed a vibration as well and it hasn't gone away. I immediately got a call back from the dealer that I needed new brakes. I bought this car used about a year ago and braking performance has gone down significantly and was recently advised by the mechanic I usually take to that it's time for new brakes soon anyway (a couple thousand miles tops). It's the vibration which is weird, almost like my alignment is off now.

Considering it's brakes related, I might as well pose the question. I am thinking to buy my own parts. Are these a good buy?

I used Akebono in my previous car and was quite happy with them. Slotted versus standard rotors, thoughts on that? Any better and reputable site to purchase from? I haven't bought from these guys before.

Thanks.

if you want stopping power, and I mean a lot more than oem, I went with Satisfied GranSport 6 pads and StopTech slotted rotors, the difference is HUGE (change all 4).

www.satisfiedbrakes.com and the bottom left button leads you to their online store. Less than $200 for all 4 pads.

Hmm, tried the link but if I shop by vehicle, only brake fluid shows up...as a test I tried Audi and a bunch of additional products show up. Am I to assume they don't have them for the RL?

I wouldn't assume that as my RL uses the same stuff as your RL, look it up under 09 RL, same difference

Yeah, I tried that as well, only 3 products show up. I am now thinking Centric 120.40067/120.40066 for rotors and Akebono ACT 1091/ACT 1090 now, $200 pads and rotors. Also, I know this has been hased on this forum, Brembo versus some other brand...my dealer insists these are Brembo. Plus, check out this link:

It implies Brembo as well for 2006 RL. What the heck is Brembo anyway, a brand name? In which case any OEM equiv will suffice, no?

Emailed the dealer. He has no idea why it is vibrating. Requested I return so they can check it out. A three hour venture, back and forth if they fix it right away.

Anyway, drove home tonight and it seems to have gone away. Maybe there was some air in the line that worked itself out. Will keep an eye ( or foot) on it.

Thanks for all the replies.

wow, they pulled them off the site, I just ordered a brand new set like 3 weeks ago...lame

Brembo is a very fancy brand, our brakes/pads are not Brembo, they are Advics.

Tell the dealer to stick their head in the wheel well and read the caliper, A.D.V.I.C.S.

I have no idea what happened with those GranSport 6 pads but I sure am glad I have an extra set of front pads chilling home.

Sorry, two last questions...
1. how do I know which chassis I have? One of the websites indicated two numbers and therefore two different types of rotors for 2006 RL (6C005697 and 6C005698).

2. Are rotors sold as a pair? I saw some sites which indicated left and right and got the impression they are sold separately (implying driver and passenger sides).

Thanks again.

normally the rotors are sold as front and back, some like to also do left and right.

If you want slotted I would purchase from XLR8, www.excellerateperformance.com or something close to that.

Rotora or StopTech slotted are very good (and not cheap).
