Indy Car Driver owns an RL

I wonder if he complains is it is not as fast as his racecar?

It tells me he can appreciate the car for what it is, and meant to be. Interesting the RL is the sedan representative in his line up...

"Reigning IndyCar Series champion Sam Hornish Jr. is featured in the April issue of DUB Magazine, an automotive style publication. Hornish's collection includes a 2006 Acura RL, a 2005 GMC Sierra, a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado, a 1955 Chevrolet Del Ray, a 2007 Cadillac Escalade ESV, a 1977 Kenworth W900-A semi truck, and a 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z-06 that he received for winning the 2006 Indianapolis 500.".....from Paddock Talk : F1, NASCAR, GP2, IndyCar, etc....

And apparently George W approves!

I am always amazed at who owns RLs.

Very happy with mine.

All IndyCars are Honda powered. I seriously doubt they give RLs to everyone that drives in the ICS.

Sam Hornish actually picked his vehicle up from our dealership. He has recently purchased a white 07 auto TL-S as well.

Cool! Maybe those Acura ads on the Speed Channel paid off?

I am from Indy and at the dealership where I bought my RL this past May, there was the exact RL I wanted (Black/Ebony with spoiler and wood wheel/shifter). I asked if that one was sold as it looked like it had been prepared for delivery, and sure enought it was waiting for pickup by Michael Andreti. Dan Weldon purchased his RL there too. I actually ran into him in person at the dealership. These were not freebees either, although I am sure (but not had it confirmed) that they get a hell of a deal through Honda.

Hornish, Andretti and Weldon! That would be one great ad right there!

Hmmm, I'm surprised he is buying Acuras and why an auto TL-S? You would think he'd get a stick shift.

My guess would be:

1) Maybe he bought the car for another driver?
2) He already has to work a rowbox for a living, maybe an auto is a breather?
3) He understands he cannot make full use of it on congested roads as he experiences on the track
4) The auto makes text messaging easier
5) He can blame street race losses on the tranny
6) He's a secret tester for Acura auto tranny durability
7) His insurance rates are already too steep
8) His pit crew refuses to rotate the tires more frequently on a manual
9) His hand is already seriously calloused
10) Maybe, just maybe.....he LIKES an auto tranny???

Since I started doing autocross, I don't drive NEARLY as aggressive on the street. It just isn't fun because you can't realy push it as far as you want to as it just isn't safe.

When you loose it in a turn in autocross and end up doing a 180, 360 or maybe a 450 - you begin to think "What if I had been on the street and there was a (you fill in the blank) there?"

Maybe I'm just getting old, but I doubt I will ever buy a car that is only for the street with a stick again. I have felt that way for at least 10 years now.

Too bad avg race fan would be too busy getting that 2nd 8 tattooed on to pay attention. As stated earlier very few people pay attention to open wheel racing in the US. Dario wins the series & Indy & he's talking Nascar next year along with Hornish. Maybe Honda should have done like Toyota & ditched open wheel racing in the US & sunk a ton of money in NASCAR. They would propbably get more return & visibility with the public.

I pay even LESS attention to NASCAR - what is the 8 about ? I'm more of a sports car type and like racing that does more then go around an oval.

It is (was) Dale Earnhardt Jr's car number. He switched teams and had to leave the number behind. He's now car 88.

Don't ask me how I knew that. I never watched a car race (from start to finish) in my life and somehow I pulled that one out of my ass for you! To me car racing is like golf. Much more fun to do then watch. Not a good spectator sport. IMO

Not a race car driver, but I just saw an Acura RL being driven by actor Kevin Connelly ("Entourage") on one of the entertainment tv news shows. The clip also showed him with buddy Leonardo DiCapro (who was driving a Lexus LS).

I guess fame, fortune and car choice do go hand in hand?

It's not that you grew old, it's just that you grew up. I'm hoping I can continue to just grow old
