2005 RL Remote engine start
2005 RL Remote engine start
When I press the "lock" button twice on my remote, it starts my RL engine automatically. I thought RL doesn't have this feature? Does anyone else have this problem or know how to disable it?

Gee thats GREAT news to learn that remote start is possible with the RL. I installed one on my last car, a TL, using a transponder bypass which learns the code inside the key and sends it to the car when the remote start is activated. Without that the car won't start. I have been looking for a transponder for the RL and havent come across one yet. Too bad you dont know any more details about the system installed in your car. I'd love to know what brand both the remote module and the transponder are. Was there any paperwork about it in the glove box? Its particularly interesting that they were able to trigger the remote start using the 2nd pulse in the Acura body control module (which is what locks and unlocks the doors).
You should also check to see if it has an "On" function, which would let you get out of the car and keep the engine running. Some remote starts have this feature. No one can steal the car because the engine dies when the brake pedal is depressed unless the key is in the car. This is a particularly useful feature on an extremely hot or cold day when you are running into a store a moment and want to keep the car running. Not sure how it might be activated using the Acura fob. On an aftermarket fob, you would activate it by pressing and holding down the remote start button for 2 seconds while the engine is still running (at least with a Compustar remote start).

I just checked, it does have the "On" function you stated. But the engine still dies when i press the brake pedal even when i have the fob with me.

I WISH I had that "problem" on my RL. That comes in handy in those nasty Cleveland winters.Let us know if you find out which manufacturer does that, I'd be interested in finding and installing that.

I had one of their Remote Starters on my wifes Yukon and she loved it. I had "assumed" that we couldn't use a remote starter on the RL because of the keyfob. I'm thrilled to hear that someone has done it.
In my case, I'll most likely but one in the TL first. You have to know where your priorities are!

The discription references Prelude which hasnt been made in many years so I think that transponder is for older cars. I have the Compustar alarm/remote start which I pulled out of my TL before trading it in. Unfortunately the contact I used to have up in Canada where I got the unit from has left the company. He was a source of very good wiring and electrical info for the Acura. He used to also be a member on these forum boards, but I dont remember his user name or I could eamil him about it.
At the very least I will be reusing the Clifford intelisensor and adding it to the factory alarm, which doesnt have any tamper or glass sensor protection. Since I have the wiring diagrams for the RL, I know which wire to attach the shock sensor to trigger the factory alarm. Its on my list of upcoming mods.
I know this post is older now but has anyone figured out which bypass module will work for the RL. It's not hard to get a remote start to work but the car still needs to be able to be secured when you walk away. If you just put a key in a bypass box under the dash the car could be started anytime, that wouldn't be good. Please post if you have any verified info on this subject.
