Goodbye to RL

I sold my RL last week. It was a really great car and I was able to keep it as a cream puff by having it garaged. However, I was hardly driving it and after some thought it was just a waste of money by keeping it around, especially since I have an RDX and ILX, both of which run perfectly. My plan is to get the new MDX and I'm ready to buy one but due to inventory shortages they are selling at or above MSRP. I'm going to wait as long as it takes until prices get back to normal and I can get it at or near invoice.

$5500 to CarMax. I could have probably gotten $1-2k more by selling it privately but frankly I don't have the time nor inclination to deal with looky-loos and I'm paranoid about having scumbags and tweakers know where I live.

why would you sell it at your house!? lol

always at the police station.
Honestly; $5.5k is GREAT! That's awesome that you did so well on the sale!

I know how well you kept the car!! it was in super great condition!

I know I can always meet people elsewhere, but imagine people calling every few days to look at it and do test drives. I would be constantly driving out. It's just so much easier to sell it to someone like CarMax where there's no risk.

Yeah, I was a little sad to sell it but it really was a waste of money to continue keeping it.

'22 MDX - just be ready for a super-boat feeling... it was RIDICULOUS how boaty the feel is, especially if you try to brake pedal steadily press/release - press/release - press/release, etc. It truly felt to me like this:

Well, the RL is a little floaty too, so I don't think it will bother me. But realistically I ain't getting the MDX for a long time. There is no inventory these days, it's selling for a minimum of MSRP. I refuse to pay that much, so I predict I'll be waiting until 2022 or 2023 until I get one.

Curious to know how much Shift or Carvana would have bought your RL for. From my experience their offers tend to be higher than Carmax, and is more convenient since they come to you to pick it up.

I did an online quote with Carvana they offered $1500. I didn't try Shift.

I had previously said I was going to wait for the 22 (or 23) MDX as I didn't want to buy it at or above MSRP. Well, after some serious thinking and research, I've decided to go with a Tesla Model Y long range. The Model Y is actually cheaper than an MDX. It is slightly smaller, about the size of an RDX I would say. But the electric power is amazing. 0-60 in 4.8 seconds. And this is the "slow" model.

This is why I don't sell cars privately anymore. The most insane, stupid thing DMV did was put people's home address on title. It is mind-boggling. You can meet them anywhere, it won't make a difference. They get to know where to live. They may come back tomorrow, that night or in a year. You never know. That isn't worth any amount of money. Take it to carmax or a dealer and get whatever you get for it. Unless it's truly someone I know, a friend, co-worker or family. But selling to people you care about can be tricky. Car can dump next day and then what. Not worth it. Unload it at at a reputable place like carmax and move on with the life.
