Target Price for 2012 RL Tech

Hello all,

New member here though have had a 2010 MDX since new. My local dealer has a 2012 alberta white/seacoast RL Tech(and, not surprisingly, that is the only new RL there) that I have been eyeing. I know this is a lameduck model and recent reviews have been tepid, but I like the relative stealthness of the exterior, find the interior quite nice with the exception of the last-gen Tech, and enjoy having a vehicle I won't see coming at me at every other block.

With the great financing now available I am thinking of calling the salesman who sold me the MDX and seeing what deal can be struck on the RL. I would appreciate any input anyone may have on what a realistic target price should be. I am unaware of any current cash incentives on the RL, but I would think given the circumstances a great deal could be had. Then again, there are so few of these models even available new right now perhaps my thinking is in error. Thanks for any advice on this.

Well, they definitely aren't over stocked like they used to be, so that angle is gone. Still, I would think $5k below MSRP is possible.

Why not wait for an RLX though?

Yeah they only sold 33 RL's last month LOL. And yeah like oo7spy is saying just wait for the RLX for two reasons (to get the RLX, or to get the 2012 RL really cheap).

And damn...I just looked at a promotional video for the 2013 RLX...DAMN I would def wait

I tend to agree with the others. The new RLX should be out before the end of the year. While it will be more expensive than the 2012 RL you're looking at, it will be 8 years newer in technology, performance and styling. Just think, in that 8 years every single other Acura model has seen two generations, some are about to be on their 3rd. Also, as soon as the RLX comes out every RL is going to take a huge depreciation hit. I would say you at the very least owe it to yourself to wait and see what the production model RLX brings. If it's too expensive or doesn't meet your expectations at that time the 2012 RL will be significantly less expensive to acquire.

Don't get me wrong, I love my RL but if I had $40-50k to go out and buy a brand new car right now the 2012 RL would not be on my shopping list.

If you have the new car itch, we won't be able to stop you. . That said, I echo the advice of others who recommend waiting to try the RLX late this year or early next if you possibly can.

With that said, RLs are slow movers off the dealer's lot, however, and they may be willing to cut a deal just to fet rid of their boat anchor. I'm going to say 42-43k buys it like when I bought mine new in 2006.

They are not the same. 2011+ come with the 6-speed auto and a toned down beak design. I'd take the 2011+ over the 2009-2010 all day long.

Don't forget the Helmholtz resonators in 2012.

Lol. Funny you should say that. I actually started to type it in to my reply originally and then decided that it was irrelevant and deleted it.
