I understand all of that. Same age drivers with a female in the Civic who has a completely clean driving record. By every measure of driver risk, that Civic was lower. When I slammed my RL into the side of a Tundra, there was a very obvious reason the insurance didn't have to pay a dime for my medical bills-there weren't any. There is no way they or I would have rather had me do that in a Civic.
Furthermore, except in the case of a total, an estimate from an accident isn't going to change THAT dramatically between cars. Quite often, body panels are reused, fixed, and painted. The cost of labor is independent of the car being worked on. When you combine body shop labor with medical bills, the cost of car parts isn't enough to change the insurance between an RL and TL.
That was all I was pointing out.

There won't be much difference in insurance premiums between the two cars. The TL is newer, has a higher value and is a sportier vehicle but, as we've learned from this little exercise, the RL is very expensive to fix. A fender bender just totaled a $15k car.
Here's the TL I bought today BTW. 2012 SH-AWD with tech. 49k miles on the odometer.

Now the question everyone wants to know is if you are going to park the TL in the same spot as the RL and temp fate again.....?

Well, it's a done deal. Finalized the TL paperwork today and added it to my insurance plan, (less than $5/month increase in premiums). Cancelled insurance on the RL and cleared everything out of it so the salvage company could come pick it up. I pulled the wheels off and put the stock back on since I'm planning on putting them on the TL next Spring. I also took all of the LED bulbs out of the RL so I don't have to spend $200 on bulbs for the TL right off the bat. Lol. Also snagged the LED DRL's in case they happen to still be working since the TL uses the same setup.
Just FYI, I actually have a brand new RV6 J-Pipe and hi-flow precats sitting here that I never got around to installing. I'm going to send RV6 an email and see if they'd be willing to swap them for TL parts if I pay restocking fees and shipping. If they won't work with me, I'll be putting them up for sale here in case anybody is interested.
Like I said in the build thread I just made in the TL section, the RL to TL swap is a give and take. The performance and newer tech gadgets of the TL are a big upgrade from the RL. The car is much faster, handles much better and has much more refined tech features...but the overall build quality and exclusivity is something I will miss greatly. The RL is a much more substantial vehicle. It's really too bad that Acura went the way they did with the RLX.
I will be around guys. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about wheels, tires or anything else.

Did they give you a $ estimate they used to determine it was a total?

They didn't need to. From the beginning of this thread, I estimated $8-10k in damage and that wasn't accounting for a damaged CMBS unit. Add that on and it's definitely totaled. It may or may not have been damaged. Only Acura has the equipment to test the system. Rather than pay to have the car towed to and from Acura with a high risk the CMBS unit was damaged anyway, they decided to just total it. They were already 2 weeks in on paying for a rental car and probably just decided to cut their losses. It's understandable from a dollars and cents business perspective.

Alright guys. Rich @ RV-6 is going to exchange my HFPC's for TL parts but can't do it on the J-Pipe. I made a for sale thread:

I also have a never installed Audiovox/Dice Mediabridge along with all of the OEM parts needed to do a clean 09+ style install.
