Thumbs down Get a load of this shit!

So a coworker of mine and I went to a concert directly after work tonight. We took his car and left mine in the parking lot at my shop. It was sitting all by itself in the very back of the parking lot right under a bright ass street lamp. No way you could fucking miss it.

During the concert I received a voice message from the local police department saying my car was involved in an accident. We arrive back at the store close to midnight and found this:

Get a load of this shit!-wpycwev.jpg

Get a load of this shit!-3llgkbk.jpg

The idiot truck driver bringing our Monday tire delivery somehow backed into it and took out the whole front end. Both headlights, front bumper, grill, left front fender, hood and CMBS sensor are all going to need to be replaced. What a fucking dimwit. I'm guessing $8k-$10k in damage.

Wow.... That blows man! Is it just me or did they car shift from the hit? I'm assuming it was parked in parallel with the lines initially?

I bet it was parked like that to avoid other cars since most park in the non handicapped and handicapped can park off to the side as well since there is often no parking on the far side.

If not then good eye, and that will cost ya!

Good thing it wasnt some asshole teenagers that would have just left. Suuucks though man. Know the feeling.

That is terrible. If you need a new CMBS unit that is going to cost a ton.

Go start pricing out front end parts for a tech package RL and you might change your mind about that. The emblem in the grill alone is like $400+.

No, it was parked like that. That's the employee parking area. The handicap spot is never used and there was a big ass truck parked on the other side when I pulled in originally.

And I'm not paying for shit. The car is going to the only auto body shop I'll ever use and they aren't cheap. They're Acura certified.

Wow! That sucks for sure. What the hell was he driving that he didn't see your car? My guess is he didn't / wasn't looking at all. As others have said at least he owned up to it and it shouldnt cost you a dime. Do you have security cameras where you might be able to see the carnage?

No security cameras. It was an 18-wheeler. He didn't have a choice really. He has to sit around there to deliver the tires on Monday morning.

The only damage I ever get on my vehicles is in parking lots when I'm not around. Most of the time the driver responsible leaves the scene. It's a good thing you have information and a police report.

Good, make sure they pay for it!! My friend leased a 535xi M sport from a dealer in Nebraska (Husker Bmw) back in December. The hauler that brought it to Michigan damaged both bumpers pretty severely, the front one was scraped and the rear one had a gapping hole in it. Friend took it to the only certified bmw body shop in the state, and the trucking company ended up footing the bill for m sport bumpers that had to be shipped from Germany.

DUUDDEEE!!! That sucks!!

Good thing he owned up to it, seems like it may have been an honest mistake. I'm sure they'll cover it and sounds like you've got a good shop to go to.

Exactly. New chrome bumper trim, headlight housings, foglight housings, CMBS Acura emblem. Plus, I'm going to have them fix a few other little things that I've been wanting to do since I bought the car. That's why I'm not really too mad about it. It's more of an inconvenience than anything.

Careful, the conspiracy theorists (and insurance adjusters) will see this and think you arranged for the unfortunate face clocking of the RL.

I'm paying for the extra stuff out of pocket. Both mirrors have scuff marks on them from the previous owner that I've been wanting to get repainted. Also, the paint in the door trim and roof channels is fading. I figure it's cheaper to just have them do that while they're already painting and blending the other stuff.

My biggest worry right now is the shop's ability to source another A-Spec front lip.

They should be able to get one of another color easily and paint it.

I agree with justn about the price. My totaled front end and damaged rear quarter panel was estimated at $14k. There is no way insurance will pay to replace any panels or the hood. They will be reused. If the CMBS unit wasn't in there, I would guess $4-5k.

Sucks, dude. Make sure to follow up on a depreciated value claim.

Also, insurance companies have negotiated prices with shops that are typical >25% off of what you would pay for labor, so the "expensive shop" point is a bit moot.

My car was involved in a frontal accident last winter. I ended up with new bumper, grills, headlights. Luckily, my A-spec lip was intact. We just reused them. It cost my insurance company over 6 Gs including a week rental of a F150. I bet your's will be close to 8 grands. I took the opportunity to put in new Osram CBIs with the new headlights, and HID in the fogs life's good, except of one of the projector's beam doesn't produce a sharp cut-off line like the other side. It is blurry with yellow hue over the hotspot of the beam.

One thing I learned from the collision, the RL's weight really does help it in those situations. I was taking off from a red light turn green in heavy snow. The oncoming car burned the red light, took a left and I hit her at the edge of the back door and the wheel. The poor civic slid to go hit the traffic light pole and a couple twisties before stopping on the curb. The RL didn't even bulge. It felt planted on the road, didn't even looked it had been in a collision except for the cracked bumper.

Sorry for hijacking ur thread, just wanted to point out the fresh start for ur car.

The other party's insurance company sent out their own adjuster for the initial pre-teardown estimate. It came back at $6k and doesn't include the passenger side headlight, which I'm pretty sure is going to need to be replaced, he wrote up the wrong front emblem, (there's another $400), plus nearly $400 worth of aftermarket lighting that the body shop will add in on their estimate. The shop manager said that number will go up, (possibly a lot), once they start into it. So, like I said before, probably at least $8k.

And here's the POS I'm driving until my car is done. CVT transmissions FTL:

They gave me a red Altima too (2.5S) when I got side swiped. Getting the RL back was like a Christmas morning. The estimate will definitely go up when they start work.

I wish someone would crash my front bumper (while no one was in the car), and I could get my road rash, cracked lower bumper cover, and yellowing headlight covers all replaced! Your car will be like new when done.

Why is everyone knocking the Altmima BTW? My previous car was an Altima 3.5L Sport, and it was pretty fun. Certainly no RL, but surely better than most rentals, like a Malibu. What's wrong with the CVT transmission also? Nissan was the first to put them into production, and I think they have a good track record. my wife's Subaru has a CVT, and it gets 30mpg with AWD (pretty impressive). I think all cars will be made with CVT's and direct fuel injection soon (as well as have more aluminum in the bodies, and auto shut off at stop lights) just to keep up with fuel usage standards.
