Why is everyone knocking the Altmima BTW? My previous car was an Altima 3.5L Sport, and it was pretty fun. Certainly no RL, but surely better than most rentals, like a Malibu. What's wrong with the CVT transmission also? Nissan was the first to put them into production, and I think they have a good track record. my wife's Subaru has a CVT, and it gets 30mpg with AWD (pretty impressive). I think all cars will be made with CVT's and direct fuel injection soon (as well as have more aluminum in the bodies, and auto shut off at stop lights) just to keep up with fuel usage standards.

I wish someone would crash my front bumper (while no one was in the car), and I could get my road rash, cracked lower bumper cover, and yellowing headlight covers all replaced! Your car will be like new when done.

I don't know if there is a difference, but my rental just said "S" on the back, no "2.5S". I enjoyed one thing in the Altima, throttle response. I have never been a fan of Nissan interiors, but that's just opinion. The seat was so plush it had no support. It was the exact opposite of the hard, cardboard feel of my rental Impala. So much so that they missed the sweet spot. The engine had no refinement above 4k rpm. Like I mentioned, the throttle was great; it jumped much faster than the RL does. However, when you flog the engine, it sounds like crap and was a bit embarrassing like I shouldn't even be trying to rev it up. For what it is, it is a fine car, and I'm sure the 3.5 makes a world of difference. I also know Nissan offers much improved trims. However, I would still choose an Accord over the Altima (like the thousands of other drivers who do too), and we all know we would choose the RL over the Accord.

The other party's insurance company sent out their own adjuster for the initial pre-teardown estimate. It came back at $6k and doesn't include the passenger side headlight, which I'm pretty sure is going to need to be replaced, he wrote up the wrong front emblem, (there's another $400), plus nearly $400 worth of aftermarket lighting that the body shop will add in on their estimate. The shop manager said that number will go up, (possibly a lot), once they start into it. So, like I said before, probably at least $8k.

Yeah. If that's the case, they'll total it. Sucks because the car is worth more to me fixed. With less than 2 years left to pay it off, I wasn't really wanting to get into another 5 year loan. Plus, it will be hard to find another tech package RL with the lip kit and all again. I'll probably start looking into 6-speed 4th gen TL's instead.

Car doesn't need gap insurance. I owe less than it's worth. I just won't be able to get into a similarly equipped car that I only have to make payments for 2 more years on. I've owned it for over 3 years now. The TL is paid off and I was looking forward to being done with car payments in the near future. Now, I'll be back into a car payment for the next 5 years if they total it.

BDogg, if you work with the insurance company you may be able to buy it back from them if they total and still come out ahead... just a thought. At least that's how things work in here in South Dakota...

When State Farm totaled my car, they offered me $14k and the car back or $21k to keep it themselves. The wisest choice was obvious. FWIW, they pay you everything it would cost to get back into an equally valued car, TT&L.
I paid $26k + TTL in Dec 2010 for my '07 with 27k miles. They totaled it in March 2013 with 59k miles, so I got 28 months and 32k miles for ~$6k. I used the money to buy the Tundra for $11,900 amd put the difference to the principle of my original loan.
You can make it work out if you try, but I understand it wasn't asked for.

My insurance wouldn't let me buy back my CLS when it got wrecked. Actually, they said I could buy it back at the price they were giving it to me for (16K at the time which was more than I bought it for). Crappy Deal! Are you even able got get stuff and part out anymore?

They will probably let him take accessories and any mods that can be replaced with stock parts. I had to put my steering wheel back on to get the wood one off. Make sure you get both fobs and just leave one key.

It's totaled. I'm not going to buy it back because, after considering a salvage value, we would be too close to being upside down on it. The dealership up the street has a CPO 2012 TL SH-AWD tech in going to go look at tomorrow.

My wife came down and drove it this morning and had the dealer run some numbers. The dealer picked me up from work on my lunch break so I could buy it today. Lol.

Hopefully your insurance stays roughly the same (not because of the claim, but because of a 6 year newer car). And don't forget it's a CPO, so you are good for another year, right??

You aren't being confrontational. There are tons of factors that go into pricing and in the scenario you laid out I'm going to guess the frequency of loss (accidents and thefts) weighed heavily on the Civic. Civics are less expensive and consequently typically driven by younger less experienced (higher risk) drivers. Then there is the popularity of the Civic and the desire for parts which can lead to higher theft rates. Again there are tons of factors in determining insurance rates and insurance companies use ginormous amounts of data analytics to make sure they stay profitable.
