Front Brake replacement cost

HELP! My '05 RL is in the shop now and they're telling me it's going to be $400+ to have my front brakes replaced. They have to replace the pads and turn the rotors is what the guy said. Has anyone else had a dealer put pads on their car? Can someone give me an idea of what they paid? I don't have an issue with the OEM brakes, I did make it 45k miles after all, I just don't think $400 seems right.

Sounds about right for what a dealer would charge.

Ouch, that sounds high, but that seems to be what luxury car dealerships are charging these days for an AWD brake job.

I wonder what flat rate is for a RL brake r/r...1.25 hr for r/r, 1.0 hr for rotor resurfacing? $140/hr labor rates? $75 pads? I'm curious as to how they reached the $400 figure.

Let us know when you get the bill.

For comparisons sake, I was quoted $700 for a 4-wheel brake job on an '01 TL last year.

Pad replacement and rotor resurfacing.

FYI, the front pads alone cost around $160, which is pretty pricey-even my old Volvo 850 pads were cheaper than that, and Volvo is not known for inexpensive OEM parts.

That price is high but I love the OEM pads and the fact that they don't coat my wheels with tons of unsightly dark brake dust. Compared to the pads on my Volvo XC-90 these things are a dream. I think they are worth it for that reason alone.

I had a Volvo S60 that I traded for the RL. The wheels would be just about black within a day of my cleaning them. Volvo brake pads are notorious for creating dust.

The RL's wheels stay very clean between washings. That alone is worth the price of admission (or at least the price of the OEM brake pads).

Go to "ThePartsBin.com" You can get EBC Ceramic. I would choose the "Red Stuff"pad set at $84.27 part No. DP31735C and free shipping.

The breakdown is close to $200 for OEM Brembo pads and $235 for labor to replace pads and resurface the rotors. Are the OEM pads really Brembo and do I HAVE to use them? Are there other pads that are comparable that will fit that caliper? It's nice to hear that most of you are getting around the same price though. Like I said, I really love the way the OEM pads feel.

RL has Brembos? Didn't know that ???

Anyway, I can get Akebono ProACT premium pads (excellent pads btw) for about $65 shipped for the RL. The aftermarket Raybestos QuietStop pads used by many shops can be had for about $50 shipped, meaning most shops can do this brake job for about $150-$175/axle.

Yeah. The guy at the dealership told me that the 05 RL comes with Brembo pads stock. I know the calipers are made by Brembo so I guess I'm not too surprised that the pads are Brembo as well.

I always thought the pads and calipers were made by the usual Honda supplier, Nissin.

For comparison, I just had all 4 pads replaced/front rotors resurfaced on my 01 CLS...It ran me near $500 at an Acura Dealership.

Funny how the 6-speed Manual Transmission TL has Brembo brakes, and my book says that they take semi-metallic pads as they match the Brembo OE material. For the RL, it just says to use ceramic in this car. In other words, the friction material recommended for the RL (the brakes) is not consistent with other Brembo equipped vehicles...
