Those of us in Florida cannot purchase an extended warranty from out of state vendors. Just another one of the great insurance carpetbagger screws we have here in the hurricane state.
Before I approach my dealer to find out what costs would be I wanted to do some comparison shopping should there be plan / price options. For all I know, it may be a fixed price and plan.
Well I made the mistake of requesting information from an online vendor, mostly for informational purposes before speaking to my dealer. The online quote has turned into a lead generator for telemarketers with high pressure sales tactics. My phone rings every 15 minutes from 9am until 9pm. Just shoot me.
I have given up dealing with the boiler room calls.
So, do any members have info or experience with extended warranty purchases for Florida (after the initial sale of the car)? What advice can you offer?
I know, I know....I should have come to this source FIRST!

I would print out tim's prices, go to your local dealership and see if they can get near that price. I did that when getting my MDX and it worked, got within 100 dollars of tim's price and got a discount on my mobile gaurdian system too.
I second CS' advise. Use the online pricing to your advantage as negotiating leverage. I bought an out of state extended warranty through my credit union and after trying to use it a couple of times and getting the run around both times decided to cancel the damn thing for a prorated refund. It took me 20 months, yes 20 months to get my refund. Lesson learned!!!
I do have to say that having owned the Acura extended warranty on a 97 3.2TL a few years back was the most painless ever. $50 deductible and covered everything known to man. Good stuff then, and I will shop around for it again should I decide to keep the 06.
Good luck,

I'd go naked on the warranty and instead put the money in the stock market. Seriously. Most folks don't have large warranty repairs with Acura products . . . . . . and the stock market is absolutely flattened with all the blood in the streets. Buy a quality regional bank, a building materials company, Berkshire Hathaway (just entered into an extremely lucrative re-insurance arrangement with the State of Florida regarding hurricane coverage insurance backstopping) or some other quality company that has been killed in the recent carnage and then just sit on it for five to ten years. Do that a few times and Acura RLs bought with cash are no problem.
Am full in the market right now and have zero extended warranty coverage. But hey, I'm 55, the kids are out of college and on their own, plus we have no debt.

Indeed, I agree on the market.
But now that I know I will likely keep my RL into the second year of the next generation (2011-12 ish) the extended warranty is appealing. I have rarely owned vehicles beyond the factory warranty.
I have no worries from the automobile aspects of the car. My concerns are with the technology laden features. I want them to work, and should something fail, I want it replaced. Case in point: when my AcuraLink messaging discontinued, they wound up replacing the AcuraLink HIP unit, which is a $3000 part. That cost alone would have justified the expense of the extended warranty.
My concern is more for the processor units, NAVI components, and electronics which are not engineered and built by Honda. Some people would simply drive the car without the NAVI functioning, or solar sensing climate control because the engine and brakes still work fine. I am not one of those people.

I've had the door handles on each side replaced twice in two years. That alone justifies the $900 I spent on my extended warranty. History tells me that the probability is high that they'll fail again after the factory warranty expires.
What good is trying to get local dealer to price match when you legally can't buy it online or out of state? I guess I'm cynical about dealers. They make a lot of money on the extras.
I bought my ext warranty from the online dealer and just had about $500 of work covered, SRS light on and 'mode' motor of the AC. (03 CLS)
