First road trip

I have owned my 2006 RL for a little over a year and finally had a chance to take it on a road trip this past week. I put 222 miles on it and averaged 26.5 MPG which is superb for a car with 91,000 miles on it and 300 horsepower. I especially enjoyed using the ACC or active cruise control which really allowed me to totally relax in traffic. Also have a sensitive back due to being 64 years old the seat was extremely supportive and I had no pain or delayed pain a couple of days later. if I received a giant windfall tomorrow I would not buy a different car. It is superb in every way.

Your experience is a whole lot like my own. I used to take my '06 on long highway trips often for business. I'd lock the cruise (I don't have ACC -- I'm jealous) on 75, and average almost exactly 26 mpg. My back also lacks a sense of humor, but the seat is so supportive it was never an issue even after several hours of driving.

And yes, I agree: With its reassuring control in all weather, comfort and style, I have absolutely no desire to ditch my RL for something newer or "better."

The RL is definitely a sweet road trip car. A couple weeks after buying mine my brother and I drove from Denver to Lincoln, Nebraska for the SCCA Solo National Championships. Originally we were going to drive down in the car we had planned to race, (a heavily modded 1996 Civic DX with race suspension, swapped/turbocharged and no A/C). That car got sold just weeks before the race and we ended up using a good friend's race car instead. Fortunately for us, that friend drove the race car down to Lincoln and we got to cruise in the RL. Adaptive Cruise Control is definitely sweet along with tons of other features like XM Radio, ultra comfy seats, etc.

91,000 miles means your Honda has just recently been broken-in.

I was lucky enough to start the journey with mine on an 800 mile trip. My back is terrible for my age, and I could've done another 800 no problem.

a GREAT road car

The RL is definitely a great road car. Like you, OP, I have enjoyed the ride, the cruise, the MPG's and the amenities in our RL over longer drives.

We don't have ACC, but setting the cruise to 80 and letting it sit from LA to San Diego (often) or San Diego to Mammoth (summer only, eeek my baby!) makes for a smooth, comfortable, stable run.

I purchased the one owner RL with 83,000 all highway miles from an agency in May 2011 for $17,995.00 and was previously owned by a travelling salesman. I recently had the brake master cylinder fail which I figure was the reason the previous owner traded in the car. After contacting Acura customer service they paid for the entire repair which proves once again that Honda Motor Corp stands behind their products 100%.

My wife and I have been going from Ontario to SW Florida (2,400km one way) at least twice a year for the last 4 years and cannot think of a better ride for this trip.

I have 82k miles on our 2006 RL, 1st and only owner. I've done an 850 mile road trip ( and back) about once a year each of the last 4 years between Atlanta and NJ in both the RL and the Lexus SC430. I am always less tired after doing this trip ( one day, no stops except for gas ) in the RL than the Lexus. The RL is the best long range cruiser and I am with the OP 100%. The MDX is comparable in terms of comfort to the RL but yeah, I struggle to get 21 mpg in the MDX obviously, while 25.5 mpg on the RL is easy to achieve.

06RL/NBP: dunno if you will get to test the RL's capabilities in snow but I have done so a few times. With winter tires in a VT snow storm - steady as a rock. I'll be sad when I have to eventually retire the RL in a couple of years.

I've had my '07 RL for about five months and have no buyers remorse. I purchase vehicle with about 110k and how have around 120k miles.

I DO have the ACC and conceivably could drive from NJ to CA and never have to put my foot on either the accelerator or brake the whole trip
