It's a click noise in the shifter box when you're in Drive and begin to accelerate. Also, when you slow down to stop, right before you stop it "clicks" again.

Slight but noticeable. Has anyone else heard this?

I have the same noise. I at one time thought maybe a coind found it's way into the console and was rolling around. Apparantly it's not the case.

It's a very faint sound so I'm not going to bother with it since it seems that there really isn't a long term fix.

 

Sorry to revive and old topic, but this noise is driving me crazy and I don't care how many dealers tries to tell me that this is normal. It is not, simply because the car did not come with the noise, it's a developed noise which means it's a problem. It seems that this person was able to fix it in his TSX (post #25)

In anycase, can't seem to find a part number. Can anyone find this out? Look at the pic where it says Shift Lock Stop. The dealer changed the Shift Lock Solenoid and the sound is still there. That part I need is called a Shift Lock Stop/Reverse Lock Stop.

 

I had this problem on my '06 RL, and was told it was "normal". They even went so far as to drive other RLs on their lot and heard the same sound.

My feeling was that just because it started happening on other cars, and could be heard elsewhere, that didn't make it "normal". Common, perhaps, but not something that should be heard on a top-line model every time you accelerate and brake. And if you don't hear on the new ones then it is something that develops over time.

Anyway, I got the right combination of service manager and technician and they diagnosed it, replacing some sort of plunger device in the shift mechanism that lost its lubricant. So far, the sound is squelched.

Rob144, glad everything worked out for you. It would be helpful if you could post what was written as the diagnosis and solution from the service record. If you still have it. The dealer I go to is quit good, it's just that sometimes I have to point out specifically what to do in order for them to make repairs, otherwise I might get the "it's normal" or "can't reproduce" response. I swear that must be written in the training manual since I've heard from many dealers.

 

yes .. please add the diag and any tech notes .. this is the first time I've ever heard of an actual "fix" for this issue.

 

I found the work order:

"Removed center console to inspect gear shift assembly. Found interlock solenoid plunger making excessive noise. Replaced solenoid and noise decreased some but still noticeable. Applied lubricant to moving linkage of plunger and noise decreased more. No further repairs are possible to reduce noise any further. Normal sound of interlock operation."

After whatever magic they did with those parts and that description, the acceleration/deceleration clunking went away. There will always be a slight clunk when you press the brake in park as the shift interlock mechanism engages and disengages.

 

I had this noise in my '06 - it is absent in my '10 Tech. Acura must have redesigned something in the tranny console. Same transmission, same basic design.

 

Rob144, thanks for the input. I'll bring this to my dealer and have them perform the same actions. If that doesn't work out, I'll just bang on it with a hammer until the sound goes away.

Miner, when my car was new, I didn't have that sound either. It developed after about a year or 2. They may have redesigned something or maybe they didn't. Only time will tell.
