Dropping the car
Dropping the car
I'm contemplating 18" wheels and lowering the car.
What is entailed in lowering it?
What is entailed in lowering it?
- Is it new shocks and springs, or only springs?
- Is it a dealer only job (exclusive of the alignment, I mean) or can it be done DIY?
- What is the recommended replacement equipment? I'm not tracking it, just want a different look (more like that Porsche in the avatar
). - What's the expected cost?

For extensive info on this topic visit the 2G RL Garage. Aspec is one option that provides Acura designed suspension, body kit (if wanted), and 18" rims. You don't need to replace shocks, but it depends on your goal and the age of your current shocks. If they're anywhere near replacement time you should do it all at once. If you're mechanically inclined you can DIY. There is a thorough writeup in the garage. Otherwise many members opt for a dealer install. I personally used a non-Acura mechanic who I really trust. Aspec wheels and suspension will probably run around $2400 give or take $400.
you have 3 options.
1. aspec suspension which are shocks and springs. about 1in. in
drop and about $500.
2. H&R lowering springs. about 1.7in. in drop and about $250
3. tein cs coilovers. which are height adjustable and
damper adjustable. about $2500
those prices are just estimates. and reading that u want the look of your porsche i say go for the tein cs coilovers system.

just to correct the drop from above.
A-Spec is 0.7" and H&R is 1.5"/1.4".
Here is how it looks on 18" wheels:

bottom line, if you want good drop with much sportier performance, you get H&R.
If you want mild drop with little change in ride feel, you go for the A-Spec.
H&R springs can be bought from TireRack.
best bet for A-Spec is ebay.

just in case you want to be RRP twins

those were custom drilled 5x120 in case you're wondering. RJ can arrange for that and they are Honda specific wheels. No issues, no problems.

037--You didn't hijack it from me. That was great info and pics--thanks.
Maybe I try this incrementally with the 18" wheels and the H&Rs, and only go the expensive route if I'm not happy.
Thanks again!! I may PM you later too.
