That's really odd... everything else works ok? How old is the battery?

Have you tried searching through the TSBs? I know that there are some software glitches that are fixed by upgrading the car's firmware, but don't know if that's one of them.

This sounds like a dealer visit to me.

I have never seen that issue reported on the RL forum. Nor do I find any documentation in the owner's manual for such message.

However, it was reported in the TSX forum a few years ago, and assumingly it is a dealer / diagnostics issue.

Here is another from an Accord forum. Apparently there is a communications issue between your head unit and the HVAC system.

When you say "on", do you mean that the engine is running or do you have just the ignition in the "on" position?

I have run into that before and it happened when making adjustments on the climate control while the engine was off.

Does that mean you accessed the diagnostics screen and there are no errors in the NAVI test? If the AC icon is red, there is a communications issue. If not red, then the diagnostic cannot determine where the issue is....so how can we?

I'd check to see if the battery is running on low charge or not if it is low, it will cause some of the electronics to not function correctly.

You can also try a memory reset to see if the message gets cleared. Disconnect your positive and negative cables and leave them touching for about 10minutes then connect back to the battery

Unhappy any solution to this problem or suggestions?

I was wondering if anyone had found any more solutions for this issue.

I have a 2007 RL, when I bought it 3 weeks in the climate controls stopped working saying please operate after the engine is started. I would get this while the engine was running along with 3 dashes where the outside temperature should be on the dash. If I turned off the engine and restarted it they issue would go away and it would work normal. I brought it back to the dealer and after 3 weeks of a dealer car they told they had replaced the climate control unit and that it was working found when I got it back the buttons no longer lit up and after a month it started doing it again only on a less frequent basis. No that it is getting colder it is starting to do it again and now it will even stop working while I am driving which it had previously not done. Again, if I shut off the engine and restart it everything goes back to normal.

Any suggestions?

operating climate control

When displaying climate control screen -- if you turn the ignition key to off you will see this warning msg. It is just reminding you that this screen never works without the car running. If you punch up a different screen before turning the key to the off position, the msg will not display. Nothing is wrong with your Honda.

llaramie thanks for the explanation, was wondering why I would see this message every once in a while.
