Catalytic Converter Replacement Options & Emissions Error

My Front Cat is starting to go. The emissions light is on the I can hear it rattle. I have a couple questions hoping someone could help. The car is a 2005 with 190,000km on it..... Well maintained and drives great.

1. The shop wants $2200 to replace the front cat with an OEM parts. They simply said there is no cheap way to do this. I am assuming that is a bolt on Cat. Do I have any other options here? Are after market Cats any good?

2. Will there be any long term damage to either my engine or gas mileage driving with a busted cat? I think it is working at around 50-60 percent right now. No smells or anything.

I think you could overheat and damage the engine if the cat gets too hot, as the efficiency drops and it gets clogged up.

Can you provide some context? Have you usedthem? Are they "bolt on" or do they need to be welded? The price seems pretty good, I have heard that the accord cat might fit but you will lose some performance. I am guessing this is a high performance mod?

Yeah, the price is insane, It is around 1800 Canadian plus labor and 13% tax.

I have also heard good stuff about magnaflow, however, I understand you might lose some performance since they are generic cats?

Cat replacement

Little late to the party, but I’ve replaced the cats on the back side twice, (one on my car and another one my friends car) and they were some eBay cats. The first one, had no studs on them so we had to switch them from the original cats. The difficulty was pretty tough imo.

I used rv6 straight front pre cats. Good product. Does not rust fast. After 2 years maybe a hint of darkening steel .
Haven't used their front cat converters. Seems it's magna flow or flowmaster

Or you can beat front cat material with a screwdriver. And put some rear o2 sensor spacer
You don't need front cat converters. 3 is too many.
Unless u live in California.
