catylic converter prolems....

My check engine light came on and i brought my car to autozone. They said i had buildup in my cat and needed to take my car on a long drive. Well with work and school i have on time to go on long drives and now its getting worse. The cat rattles on and off. Is their anyway i can take out the cat and clean out the residue or do i have to replace it. And how much does a cat conv. cost? Any help is much appreciated..Thanks

i heard the same rattling noise, and the guy that put my cat-back exhaust on, i told him the problem, and he said the same thing, to take it on a long drive, if that didnt work then i would have to replace it, and for the price of a regular cat con, you get get a performance high-flow one for around $200.00
