I need to replace my Cat..

I've had a rattle under my car when accelerating for a month now. Finally had time to get it looked at. It's my cat. The insides are rattling all around. So I need a new Cat.
I know my options are Catco, & Magnaflow for stock replacements, Then there's RT & then there's a stock one from another car or a dealer.

Looking for opinions of the route I should take since I really don't care either way & given my mods I'm sure any of them will do fine.

Thanks

yeah, I would check the heat sheild. It's really common on hondas/acuras to rust and break loose. lift your car and hit your enxaust by the cat with your fist. you'll hear where its coming from.

You also have this option now too:

http://store.excelerateperformance.c.../i-262652.aspx

It's our cat (XLR8 high flow cat) made by RT but with larger inlets and outlets for those with headers and exhaust.

i have the rt cat for a while now and it's been great for me. the excelerate cat looks like a great option because it's basically the rt cat with larger inlet and outlet. that will be my next cat if and when my rt cat needs to be replaced.

It is the Cat & not the heat shield. I too thought it was the heat shield which is why I let it go for a month + before I got it checked out.
Excelerate, that bolts right on? Does it have the 02 sensor bung?

I have an 01 accord with the same problem. i thought it was heat shield, so i ripped it out but it turns out it was coming from inside the cat. but taking the heat shield off did help quiet the noise. someone mentioned a cheap temporary quick fix if it really annoys u. just take a self tapping screw and put in the middle of the cat. i didn't try it but it might work.

have the same issue with my cl-s6.....Im throwing a p0420 code (catylst defeciency), and thought it may have been the o2 sensors, when i replaced the downstream 02, i noticed the interior of the cat deteriorating, stuff was falling out of the o2 bung...

so im in the same boat.....could you attach a poll to this thread?

I have the same problem.. It started making noise about a month ago after the tranny got replaced. I thought they loosened something so I tightened evrything up headers and downpipe and still have the noise.. Then I took off the heat sheild and still have the noise it's deffinatly comming from the cat under certain acceleration and sometimes when shutting the car off u hear like something rattling around down there.. It sounds like something broke off inside the cat and sometimes it rattles and sometimes it prob gets hung up and does not rattle. I can't afford to fix it right now cuz I'm broke after paying 3k for a tranny and it really doesn't bother me too much. When the radio is on u can't heAr it too much .. Does anyone know if it disconne t where the downpipe connects to the cat if I can just get that broken peice outta there and stop the noise??

On this car not everything throws a code that should. idk why some do & some don't.
I don't notice any reduced performance, just a rattle when cold, or when I get on it.
Also going to replace the O2 sensor since i'm at it.
Really the cat is minor to me. I haven't had many problems from this car that I haven't caused. It's been great to me.
I think I'll go with the RT cat since it's a bolt on.
