cargo net

Does anyone have installation instructions for the cargo net or know where I can get them? I replaced the stock shift knob with the wooden one and it really steps up the interior elegance a few notches.

By the way, it sounds intimidating but isn't really that bad. I did it in about a half hour.

Wow, my dealer "threw" the cargo net into the deal and installed it prior to delivery. I didn't realize the installation was as involved as it is.

Actually, you don't need to change the hooks out, just use the existing ones...that's what I do with no problems.

Thanks to all. I will give it a try since dealer wanted $120 in labor costs for a $40 part. Typical.

OK, these instructions are for a 1st Gen RL. My RL is a 2006. Same instructions?

Lumpulus,
Please explain which hooks you use. The above instructions are for a 1st gen RL. My RL is a 2006.

Iwas able to find a install sheet for the 2005 and I see how youcan use existing tie-downs for a flat cargo net.

Miner,
Sorry about that. Mine is a 2006 and you're right, the instructions are different. My mistake.
My cargo net came with instructions included in the package.

As I recall, if you are going to install the hooks that come with the net it involves pulling the lining away from the trunk wall and screwing the new hooks in to the metal support on the side of the trunk cavity. Also, you swap out the hooks on the floor of the trunk. It sounds more intimidating than it really is.

If you're buying the OEM net from Acura I believe it will come with instructions included.

I agree with what was said about using the exsisting hooks. I don't know if it is worth the effort to replace them. If you stick each eyelet on the top corner of the net through the bottom and back over the hook (they tilt up & down) it will stay put. Then use two of the black plastic clips that came with the net to secure the bottom two eyelets to the chrome hold downs on each side of the trunk floor. Works for me at least.

miner, I also did not use the install instructions for the cargo net.

I just used the existing hooks on the sides of the trunk, and two of the metal hooks on the floor of the trunk. Works fine, and no risk of screwing up interior trim. Will provide a picture, time willing, before my trip begins early Sat AM.

HTH!

What neuron and NWRL said... The existing hooks work fine.

Thanks to all who replied and gave their opinions. Using the existing hooks; are the hooks on the side large enough to hold the loops on the net itself? I wonder why Acura just did not make the 'net' hooks like the 'bag' hooks - to just pop into the existing hole once the bag hooks are removed? I suppose because they could not charge $100 in labor to do that.

Yes, the hooks on the side are large enough to hold the loops on the net. I don't know why this is even an option on an RL. My 05 TL came with the net and had multiple mount points in the trunk from the factory.

I ordered the cargo net and was daunted by the instructions requiring you to remove the liners on both sides of the trunk to put in the new hooks.

I have tried to us the existing fold up hooks, and they are IMO, a little flimsy and small. I have had the net pop off the hook while driving, and I never did want to tear apart the car. I guess, I will take a look at the instructions and try again. In truth, I never use the net anymore, too much of a pain, and I would recommend saving the $35 unless you think you will use it.
