Appreciate the RL! Drive a POS!
Tonight I had to help a friend shuttle some people around and wound up driving their 2003 4 cylinder camry across town.
Got back in my RL and appreciated it a WHOLE LOT MORE!!
What a POS that camry was. I won't even list what sucked, because everything sucked. Everything.
I love my RL!

Hahaha! I think he may be. Just over a week ago he said RLs blend in with the Camrys and Accords of the world.

Yeah, midlife crisis for sure....
Seriously... It's a situation of wanting the stuff you can't have, instead of appreciating what you already have.
I have a newer MDX and the RL. both nice rides. You can get spoiled and take all the niceties for granted.
It's been a while since ive driven a car that truly sux, but ive had my share of them. I wasnt born well off, and when i was starting out i had crap rides. I earned what I have and while I don't have super luxurious cars, I do think they are nice.
I'm sure a 535 or other newer luxury car would also be piles better than this camry I drove....but being behind the wheel of a crap box will make you reasses yur own car and appreciate it.
The rl may not be as sexy or fast as a sports car or better sports sedan...but boy is it a nice car...relative to what else MOST people drive.
I'm just stopping to appreciate my car. The reality is that most people...not people here on this car forum, but the general public, can't afford a car like we drive...they drive a pos that isn't half the car the RL is. If you ever get slightly bored of your rl, take a $hit box for a spin.... Changes your perspective!
One thing I also noticed... When I had to drive this camry, my wife was driving my RL....and so I was following behind the rl at night....the RL looks really cool from the back. The lines look nice and the tail lights look nice. I never follow behind my car ...so I got a different perspective following behind it....looks good.
Yes, I fantasize about a lot of cars....I think I'm done wanting an rx8. That was me trying to get into a real sports car...and thinking a 2+2 would satisfy my needs, but it isn't practical enough and honestly the RL is a far nicer car.
A 535 would be sweet. If finances will allow it I'll look into it. Alternative is aspec and pay off the RL, then grab another Porsche in 3-5 years. That is when I would be able to buy one at the soonest.
Back to the point of this post.... I'm not saying that the RL is ONLY nice when you compare it to a pos..... The RL will stand up to many newer cars out there, especially when you factor in value for your dollar. It just smacked me in the face...how slick the RL is, when I had a reality check and drove a "regular" car...
Of course I'll always want something faster that handles better....but I don't think I'll complain so much about my car being boring.....

Haha! How true! I was in Hawai'i for 11 days with a Chevy Aveo rental. No power anything. No power locks, windows, mirrors... nothing. But not only that, the driving dynamics of that car is terrible. I thought I would have fun with a lighter/small car... NOPE.

What surprised me is what people will settle for in a car. Some salesmen out there must be really good at hawking cars to people. I sat with the G.M at one of the Acura dealerships for an hour the other day while I was waiting on the recall to be done on my RL, we had a great time talking about Acura's.
Driving 10 hours in the RL might be a long drive, but at the end I am not all wore out and wrung out. It is a comfortable car with lots of power and returns great mileage. I just can't see myself driving anything else. Period!

Since I was very young, I have appreciated quality in cars and have been fascinated by really nice cars. Then I learned that there are a lot of people out there who only see a motor turning wheels to get them from A to B. It confused the crap out of me b/c I couldn't relate to that mentality. To each his own, but I feel in good company here with people who truly ENJOY driving and owning a nice car. I'm glad 23109 came around to realize why he has the RL in the first place.
23109, I 100% agree that the RL has a bad ass! (Bad as in good)

While I do appreciate those who LOVE driving and the value of money
(IMHO, Acura is one of the best bang for the buck out there)
I just can't help to say that comparing a "2003 (!!) 4 cylinder (!!) Camry (!!)" to 2006 RL (Heck, even to a 2003 RL!!) is just well... moronic.
Those 2 are TOTALLY in 2 different class
It's like comparing Timex with Tag Heuer.
Just pointless and stupid...
I just saw your RL on eBay,
I must say that your Red RL is probably the coolest 2G RL that I've ever seen so far
Too bad you want to sell it...
Good luck!
Hey 037,
I just saw your RL on eBay,
I must say that your Red RL is probably the coolest 2G RL that I've ever seen so far
(didn't realize that the red one could look like that!! My co-worker has the white one, I saw Blue and Black on the road, all standard, no mod or anything)
Too bad you want to sell it...
Good luck!

Red one's don't usually look like that, slightly modded 2.5G
minor mods can make a huge visual difference.
I was looking to buy a TL Sh-AWD in 09 but didn't like the 6% financing they were running.
the RL cost me the same money, and RL is obviously much more car, so, bought it cause it was on sale.
made sense at the time, but not 2.5 years later.

Black on black may work in NY (or anywhere North and West Coast)...
But down here in Dallas, TX, I have learned my lesson (the hard way) to NEVER buy Black on Black again (no matter how cool it looks...)
it hit 100's here a couple of times so far and with 45% ceramic huper optik tint, I can't say anyone burned their thighs off.
the only thing I burned my self on was the entertainment control knob...which was silver and metal.
I also burned my knuckle holding it on the shifter with the sun hitting from the windshield...never happened to me before but it was pretty lame.
I almost tinted the front window cause of that.

I think proximity to the sun has something to do with it as much as the actual temperature outside. Also, we are talking about in direct sunlight like a parking lot (maybe you are too). They are saying every consecutive heat record in Central Texas will be broken this summer. This shit is hot, and not in a Paris Hilton, "that's hot" kinda way.
Huh?!?

my point is that for the last two years I've driven an RL... a darn nice car. my other car is a 2007 MDX. for the past few years I also had a Porsche Boxster.. which I recently sold. so recently.. most everyting I drove was a high end car.
I used to have several POS cars when I was younger and less well off. I had a Golf 4 banger, a crappy Tercel POS, and an old boxy volvo. but it's been a while since I have driven them.
it's easy to get spoiled by a nice car and foget about all the piece of craps out there. when I drive on the road, those POS are invisible to me. I see the Vettes, 911s, S classes, 5 and 7 series, etc etc.. and then lust after those.
it's far too easy to only see the better cars and forget that there are MOSTLY junk cars on the road.. and the really nice cars, teh ones that blow away an RL in terms of luxury/qualty are few and far between...
I was at that point where I was taking my RL for granted and only looking at the cars I wanted but couldn't afford. once I drove a regular POS car...it made me realize what a great car I really have.
i'm not "comparing" them... only pointing out that it sometimes requires taking a step back...and looking at what kind of car I COULD have been drivng...to really truly appreciate the RL.
that's all.
i am still thining of doing aspec or H&R
I was surprised that newer RL (non tech or advance package) for 47k USD has no navigation installed nor AFS... feels like expensive honda accord :/ - anyhow, who has 47k to spend there should be 3-4k extra for the toys
