Anyone had the AFS Control Unit Replaced?

I am pretty angry at my dealership at the moment. My '05 RL has been at the service dept. for a week now due to AFS issues. They called me on Tuesday and informed me that they fixed the issue by replacing the AFS unit, not the Stroke Sensors. I came to pick it up on Tuesday and as soon as they turned the car on, AFS light came on. Again they called me on Wednesday and now today to pickup my car and as soon as I turn it on the AFS light comes on blinking. They are going to work on it some more today and call me back.

Anyone have a hunch at what could be the problem? I just want my baby back. I hate driving around loaners.

i did. it took them less than a day. after they replaced it, look at the bottom where the steering wheel is at. they cut an opening on your panel to replace it. it looks kinda ugly.. oh well

My guess is the Leveling sensor (or stroke sensor) in the rear left wheel! I have 3 friends with 05 RLs and each one that had the annoying AFS warning had that sensor go bad. I don't understand the dealers! They have the Honda HDS tool that tells them exactly which component is bad and they still don't get it!!! There is a code specifically for that sensor. In any event, I bought that sensor online for less than $200 and replaced it for my friends in about 15 mins. Problem gone in every case!

Yes you were right and so was I. It was the stroke sensor this whole time. Thank goodness for my warranty.

I had stroke sensor replaced, didn't fix it. Then I had AFS unit replaced, hasn't come on again, been a few months now. All under extended warranty, otherwise would have been $1000!

These AFS systems have been a disaster. The failure rate has to be higher than anything acceptable. In speaking with my service adviser, they have seen quite a few replacements. And the fixes aren't cheap either......

What exactly is a "stroke sensor"?

It's a leveling sensor on the rear driver's side suspension that measures the position of that wheel in terms of how compressed or uncompressed it is (how loaded). From that, it tells the headlights how it should move vertically like in dips and crests of hills. At least in theory, that's what it does.

Wow, I guess I didn't realize the system self-levels in addition to the side to side "sweep".

Why do they actually include a switch to turn it off?

My guess is in case it goes bonkers and your lights sweep left and right and up and down over and over and over non-stop?? (not that I've ever heard of anyone having that happen to them!)

The manual has some info on the off button and the auto leveling feature.

My AFS light came on today while driving on the hwy. Once i stop and shut off the car and turned it back on the light was gone. Should i be worried at all? Is my AFS going to go soon?

What year RL do you have? Also, when the AFS light is on, see if your lights still turn when you turn left and right. If they do, my guess is the leveling (stroke) sensor again.

afs light on then off..

my afs light would come on when i wash my RL it would stay on for 2 days then go off then it would come back on for no reason for days then go off. I put a black tape over it and it is gone forever!!! do not worry about it unless it affects the RL. it does not.

Yes, it is intermittent. Mine started to come on more frequently as time went on, but it never stayed on all the time. You have the disease. Hopefully you are still under warranty, otherwise get some tape to cover up the light that comes on.

AFS Module

My acura dealer just diagnosed the AFS light coming on as need to replace the AFS module. Tech said there were 8 codes in there. he reset and only one code kept coming back B2130 690.00 parts and labor to fix. Curious if anyone knows where to get a used part or if it is worth getting a used part.

The light comes on daily for me but it varies when it comes on. Sometimes it will stay off for quite a while but seems to go on when I turn left but the left light isn't the one that swivels. Only the right light swivels. Seems on mine the the headlight leveling part works just the swivel to the right doesn't when th AFS light is on.
