AFS Control Unit or AFS Gearbox?

I have an issue with my right front headlight. It shorted out during the initial sweep at start-up and is stuck at the right extreme of its range of motion. The negative battery cable popped off during start-up, and there was an audible "pffftt" from the right front of the car.

I am going back and forth between the AFS Control Unit and the AFS Gearbox being the part needing replacement. The AFS warning light has never come on. Is there a way to determine which part is the cause of the problem, or I am completely off-base? I am leaning toward the AFS gearbox due to the lack of an AFS warning light and due to the noise it made when it died. Any thoughts on this? Has anyone else here experienced this issue?

Also, if it is the AFS gearbox, is replacing it plug and play? Or, will I need to follow the AFS Learning Procedure or some other procedure to get the light to return to its normal position?

I appreciate any guidance and insights you can provide. I also appreciate all of you who regularly post. Over the past 4 years, you all have saved me time and money in dealing with the quirks of the 2nd generation RL: thank you!!
