Acura RL Tech 09?

I would put this in the RL section but it's kinda dead over there.

Anyways, would it be a fairly good deal for the following?

Option1:
09 black RL tech
asking $33,900
33,500 miles
Planning on offering 31k otd plus my roughly $3,500 trade in

Option2:
09 white (preferred color) RL tech
asking $34,500
48,500 miles
Planning on offering 29k otd plus my roughly $3,500 trade in

So which option would be better? I like the white but the miles bug me. And any known issues with 09 RL's? like weak transmission, ac condenser, etc...?

We recently got a 50k Certified pre own 09 RL. White color.

The only bad side was that the car was not maintained properly. The transmission fluid was black, which caused weird shifting. I would suggest checking fluids. After changing the fluids multiple times, it's much much better.

It's been a nice experience so far with the RL, loving it!

You should see what deals you can acutually negoiate instead of speculate.

A dealer not willing to come down on the price might make your decision for you.

Could you wait another year to buy the car? I would be willing to bet that the 2009 RL market will get hit pretty hard over the next year as alot of 3 year leases are ending. Also when the car is either discontinued or replaced towards the end of next year, values should drop considerably.

Option two. IMO I would only own a silver or white car. They never show dirt or swirl marks. I have a 2007 silver with 156,000 absolutely trouble free miles. I will soon however be looking for a white 09 with the tan interior. Interior and exterior are gorgeous!!!

The RL section is not that dead, thank you.

With that said, I'd go with deal 1 if the miles on deal 2 are bugging you. Prices quoted seem reasonable, as do the numbers you plan to offer.

The only issue with the 2009-up RL really is the beak, but that's just subjective. Most of the wrinkles of the 2G RL have been well worked out by now. I feel you can purchase without worries.

^ So the Transmission should be good and not be of concerned like the previous Acura transmission?

Any known issues with the AC system?

Legend transmissions have really never had a problem from what I know. TLs, CLs, and Accords are a different breed. The A/C issues were pretty much ironed out by late 2006, so no worries there either. I would not let mileage worry you. These cars run forever IF they are maintained. I would look all around the interior, exterior, and fluid pans. That would decide it for me before miles would. I would rather have an 80k mi car with immaculate records and aesthetics, than a 30k mi car that was neglected. I think your biggest worry with an RL is broken motor/tranny mounts. That is the weak part of Hondas that seem to cross model boundaries. That said, it still really isn't an issue.

Tranny is good.
AC issues were 2005 only and a few early 2006s. I had a mid-2006 build RL and had no problems with the AC in the 36000 miles I owned it.

I took a look at it (white car) tonight. Liked it. Question though, is there a way to disable the steering wheel from always adjusting for when you exit/enter the car? I would like to have it stay put.

And also, is there a way to adjust the temperature for both the driver and passenger at the same time? Without it being dual settings all the time?

For the steering wheel. yes you can adjust the telescoping feature. It is one of many individual settings that the RL can do (lights/doors etc). I am very tall and do not not like the steering wheel to retract and lower so I set it not to adjust. Your second question I am not sure about. You can verbally adjust the temperature by saying drivers temperature 75 degrees or passenger temperature 72 degrees or manually adjust either side. If you are coming from a 97 Acura CL which I owned once, you will find the RL incredible. Unbelievable sound system, best nav on the market, bluetooth, all the voice commands available etc.....

as long as the dual function is not selected, both increase and decrease when you adjust the driver side.

That is what I am talking about, but where is the dual function so I can disable it?

AC compressors dying. If you just bought, you might ask the previous owner or dealer if it's been replaced.

The '09 lost the dual function for the A/C, but gained the ability to change fan speed and mode. For an '05-08 you have to go through an A/C interface with the dial to change the fan or mode, but can change both temps at the same time. I think the '09 is better overall.

I think it was Megatron who installed the newer system into his older RL. There is a thread in the photogallert about it.

I am speaking specifically to 2009 model year cars. Previous model years have already taken somewhat of a greater hit by now. You will be able to buy an "average" 2009 for around $24k in 12 months. The same car goes for around 32-33k right now, so maybe not quite $10k

Don't believe me? I'll bump this thread for ya next october.

Its not rocket science. Many 36 month leases will be coming to a close that will leave dealers with a quite a few of these to unload. Compare the average transaction price of a 2008 right now versus a year ago to see the same principal in action. Also, the car will either be redesigned or discontinued within the next 18 months. Just wait and see what that does to values.....
