Is there a difference between this $99 one and the $185 one for the 2005 RL?

When I follow the link and put in 2005 RL, it comes up at the full price. However, when I put in 2006 and newer it comes up at the $99 price. I am currently using version 4.6x. Although my RL is a 2005, would I be ok to order the disk for 2006 and up since I am currently using version 4.6x?

If you are upgrading from original 2005 dvd, you will get 2 disks: one to update software, the second for the updated map data

Buy it and let us know! Reportedly anything that came with the two disc, one for software update, and one for the navi system itself works on past models.
With the 05 and 06 RL, 4.62 was an issue. Caused hangs or outright crashes.
They took so long to produce something that worked on the RL, 4.64, it was an embarrassment. By the time 4.64 came out it was almost time to release 4.7x, and white disc users had no way to upgrade for almost one year...the website kept saying will be released soon...
To placate the thundering crowd, they offered 4.71 for a limited time at $149 as a sort of good will measure.

06 rl, nav 4.63
was hoping someone here had feedback if any version above 4.63 would improve real time traffic or add traffic rerouting? this would be the selling point on the 2011 disc. i could care less about poi because it sucks anyway.
i called navteq customer service, and they are in india and pretty much clueless about new features. also called local acura dealer and they just say it only updates roads, poi.

knv8 - I replied regarding traffic updates on the other Navi thread
Don't know about rerouting, but I don't think the version itself will improve the receipt of timely traffic info. That said, I have seen continual improvement as the source systems are improved, but these changes get implemented without upgrading our Nav

I have a 2005 RL. Used the orginal disk until 4.8.x came out. So, I was on original version for at least 3 yrs.
What I was trying to say is that the traffic updates are pretty much independent of the Navi version. I talked to one of the Navteq engineers at a trade show. They compile traffic info from lots of sources including vehicles equiped with sensors, probes, data collected by systems embedded in roads, etc. I think each traffic flow vendor has to make their own data licensing arrangements. That is, traffic flow on Google may be different than Navteq in some areas, but the same in others.
In any case, Navteq's systems are updated a different intervals depending on the source. Some may be real-time while others are periodic batch updates. In turn, Navteq supplies data to XM to push out to our Nav system. So, you can see, the data can be relatively old before it gets to XM.
I see a refresh in my car about every 5 minutes - both in the original version and 4.8. So, the Nav in the car gets what ever data is available every 5 minutes. I don't think they have started streaming the data, but that would be an enhancement to look for in the future.

I found the improvements to support road changes in the SF Bay area as well as POI worth it in moving to 4.8. That was about a 3 year interval between versions for me.

How come its only for that perticular disc? My 2.8 version for the 1g RL is still 185. Anyone call in to see if they will give you the 99 dollar discount for a different disc?

More than likely they are coming out with another revision such as 4.A0 (next version) with new maps in February 2011...

i bought the 4.92 last week for $185 for my 2008 mdx. I saw this price via a link on the TL forum, and when I go to the Acura store it does come up for $99. I called NAVTEQ to ask for a credit or a second disc free for my RL, and the rep went and talked to a supervisor. He was adamant that the price is $185 not $99, and would not do a credit even though I told him I was looking at the price on the web order page. Interestingly, when i accessed the store from a different computer directly via acura.com the price is $185. I wonder if somehow their system is hacked via the link.

$120 after taxes...doh
I will be attempting to make backup copies of this later...

as lame as that possibility would be...it's not gonna be $99 in February. I'm coming off a 4.6x so I think it's worth it. Especially if come Feb I can sell it on ebay over $100 and keep a copy

this is 250 on the Canadian website. wtf

they have a 30 day return policy, i suggest return yours and buy the new one at the lower price. when i called earlier for questions about navtraffic, it was a rep from india and pretty much clueless. i say forget calling for a pricematch, and just in case it really is a mistake, you wont ruin it for others.

Will let you know, if reminded, how the 4.91 plays out. The bummer are the Dual Layer DVDs they use...but I'll take one for the team.

im also running 4.63 installed and running from backup disc. i think that was the last set that you could backup.
#33
so you install it with the original.. then you can run it on a copy... so hypothetically.. if a person had three Acuras.. they coudl buy ONE.. and make THREE copies... then use hte original in each car to install it... but then pull out the oringal and run on a "copy"...
that would be sweet...
can you make a copy on a standard DVD burner in a computer or is that not happening?
also - what is going to be different on this one vs my 06/07 cars.. aside from getting newer/updated maps? any new features?

i think the proper term on this forum is "backup" haha.
ive had luck with verbatim dual layers, i didnt believe it until i went thru tdks with no luck, and finally succeeded with verbatims.
but lets cross fingers on 037's attempt.

Thank you knv8.
I ordered and look forward to updating my RL when I get home next month. The 4.64 version I am running is a little buggy. On some plotted routes, when I deviate, it recalculates only once or twice, then freezes the plotted course and will not re-engage until sometime later down the route. I have a few unexpected reboots too (although that could be XM pushes, not DVD software).
But new Zagat, POIs and hopefully new highway updates will keep my RL from driving over water with newly created on and off ramps in Tampa Bay.
I hope it indeed will boot and navigate menus faster. We will see.

I can only report on the 4.6x version, backups worked fine in 09 RL as well as 05 RL (Blazing's Navi keeps scratching up discs). Let's hope the new one works too
