2005 RL w 75k miles?

Hello All,

I was thinking of purchasing a 2005 RL with 76k miles for 15,000. This Rl had one owner and is very well kept. It has been driven by a doctor in his 40's and im sure most of the miles is highway.

I am familiar with cars and mechanics, I also have been reading this forum for a bit doing my research. My question to you is, should I buy this car?

Thanks
Chris

RLs are owned by old men that don't do anything to the car. It is a terrific car to purchase used because they are well kept and maintained. 15Gs sound like a great price especially if it is OTD.

The only thing with the 2005 RL is electrical issues. Ex: AC going out or the door handle sensor malfunctioning. These are very minor issues which are not serious at all. Just make sure you purchase an extended warranty.

Thanks Blazing....OTD?

And how do I get an "extended Warranty?" is that something sold by honda? This is a private seller I am buying from.

Oh ok it is a private seller.

OTD: meaning Out the Door (thought you was purchasing at a dealer)

On the extended warranty you can purchase one through a Acura <----Highly recommend. Repairs are very pricy

can't believe our rl's resell value is dropping so much considering that an 05 bmw 5 series is for more then the rl these days and acura is suppose to maintain their resell value 10x better then an bimmer.

an 05 rl for $15 sounds like a great deal. what color is the car?

You cannot get an Acura warranty after the original new car warranty has expired. You would have to go with an aftermarket warranty company which I would be very careful with.

The RL has never in history kept up resale value which is why it makes it a great car to purchase used. With 76K miles, I'd have to say the car has to be in pretty good shape to be worth $15K considering he'd never get over 12-12.5 trade in for it if he were to go that route... If you can get one with 35K for around 19-20, why should one with double the miles be only $4K less?

My RL is still under original manufacturers warranty. Can I still purchase an extended warranty? How would I go about doing this? (ie. just go to an Acura dealer and ask to purchase it?)

By the way, 1st RL, being that the RL had one owner and was driven "lightly", I would seriously consider dropping the 15 grand for it. I'd make sure, being that the car is out of warranty, that all the recall work has been done before committing to it.

If he's had it serviced through a dealership, get that info. Service Records and background check.
Offer $14,000

Ya young whippersnapper!

Seriously, most RL owners who purchased new are in their 40's and 50's in the real world. On this board, they skew younger (30's and 40's).

In any case, $15k is a fabulous deal. I'd take it, especially if the car was well-cared for....as a doctor myself, I make sure my car is well cared for as I don't have time to be stranded. 76k miles on a car this young is mostly highway miles.

You're stuck with an aftermarket warranty, though. As noted above by others, you can only get Acuracare while the car is under its factory warranty, which yours is not by 20k miles.

Man....you can get an RL now for the same as a base Accord. Shows how time moves on, eh?

Thanks guys,

The previous owner has all service records to my knowledge( i haven't seen them though)

also the car had 1 minor accident according to carfax and he had it fixed at the dealer so it looks absolutely new.

the car is silver with black leather interior.

I did offer the guy 14k but i don't think he'll take anything lower than 15, thats why i asked if it was worth it.

Acuracare? I could try to purchase something like that.

This 2005 RL is very similar to my sisters 2009 Honda Accord(fully loaded) but this cost 20,000 dollars less.

as jim cramer would say... BUY! BUY! BUY!

I purchased my 05 with 85k on it... haven't had a single issue. You can use all that money you save to mod it!

The owner is sitting on this car and wont take less than 15k, and I wont offer more than 14k.

He's a doctor but apparently a stingy one

the accident was the other person's fault and had the front bumper replaced.

I have been looking for mods on this car and i would get the AEM air intake and whatnot. So this car is 300HP? but WHP is close to 200? is that because of the SHAWD?

I say again, $15k is a fabulous deal. I'd take it.

To answer the question about whp....SH-AWD is REALLY inefficient as applied in our RL. I dyno'ed my car and found about 35% or so drivetrain loss IIRC. Don't have time to dig up thread right this second.

vas brought up a good point, therefore i was looking at this ebay auction

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...OS:MOTORS:1123

its a bit more expensive but with 1/2 the miles and a 2006, im currently in negotiations with the dealer and asking him how much would i get for my trade in (2006 Solara)

the 2005 RL guy called me and said he'd settle for 14600, I told the guy i'll call him back because now im thinking the extra money for a newer less used car makes sense.

decisions, decisions.

anyone knows any good dealers in the NYC area?

I wouldn't be afraid to travel...there are a lot of good ones out there; I've been looking at them quite a bit as well but ended up with a zoom zoom somehow.

^^would you trust an 05 with 64k though? That's a great price but I must say that after searching these forums I am very afraid of buying an 05 that is not certified or extended warrantee eligible. I am looking to purchase cash and that price is right but i just get the feeling that I would spend thousands in repairs within the first six months.

cross your fingers-- generally these cars are very reliable in terms of the big ticket items such as engine and transmission. Have you taken the car out for a test drive? check the engine and transmission fluid and see under the hood. If it is taken care of-- it can easily do another 100K-- which for most people is a good 7-8 years of service.
And from a financial perspective, the depreciation has been taken off the car...you are purchasing what was close to a $50K vehicle for 1/3 of that price.

hey vas25tl, I called on the one that was initially listed below

No pictures but 64K miles for $13,995
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...00&cardist=329

i called on it when they first posted it and the sales guy told me it was a misprint and should be 14,900 (autotrader shows this amount now). however, even their website at the 13,995 on it when i called

good luck finding one at that price though.

i'm hoping to find a 06rl for less than 16500. if anyone sees one, let me know

I personally would rather pay less and have slightly more miles (personal opinion)

dnwsports, be patient. You will find them. The 06's are about to come off lease like panties at an underage party.
^that is why the 05's are so cheap now. I took a look at Manheim auction prices and you can score some really good deals at Acura sales - which is where all the dealers are getting them. All the ones you are seeing for $20K+ have been in the dealers possession for a very long time and have suffered a tremendous depreciation since they've been bought. It's only a matter of time before the dealer has to take a hit on them.

When do you actually need the car?
I want a 06 GS430 and waiting for them to flood the market around Spring time - if they don't I'll probably pick up an 06 RL until the GS's fall more in price.
