2005 RL with No Warranty

2005 RL with No Warranty

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Would like to get an RL in the US due to shortage and much cheaper pricing than in Canada. The cheapest I can get one in Canda is $55K, the US offers them at a fraction of this (33K to 40K)

The only hitch is that the Acura warranty is not honored in Canada. US visitors warranty is covered. I reside in Canada 10 months/yr and 2 months/yr in Massachusetts. Acura US require an american adress to cover this RL

Acura Canada will not sell me warranty because of some pact with dealers. (supply/demand control)

Would anyone tell me their opinon if you would buy it without a warranty or any suggestions you can provide on cross border warranties .

I am inquiring on buying other warranty options but all of the major warranty companies are hesistant of selling this extended warranty for a Canadian RL as none has agreed to sell them yet

The saving of 10 to 15 K savings Cdn vs US will cover some of the trouble but it defeats the purpose as I just love the new RL.

I presently drive 2002 Acura TL with a West Wing Kit and an extended Acura warranty. I love Acuras and want to stay in the fold

Acura brothers and sisters I require your help DO I BUY AN 2005/6 RL WO WARRANTY

Pls advise

Will the warranty be covered the 2 months out of the year that you live in the US? How much mileage is on the RL? If youre bent on getting it, Id have it serviced in the US and thoroughly inspected/looked through and all problems fixed before I took it back up. Dont you have an issue with the VIN number when you go to register it in Canada?

The warranty as I can tell, is either Acura US for american bought cars and Acura Canada for canadian bought cars with no cross border warranty being honoured . For the period I stay in the US, as my car is registered in Canada it would not be covered by Acura US as my main place of residence is Canada.

This is not only for Acura but most of all other cars. Controlling the market or simply suppy and demand!!!!

Would you trust to buy the car anyways, is it reliable enough to stick my head out with the new RL without warranty after a thorough check of the vehicle

There is no way I would purchase any high-end car without warranty. Any component failure, will cost you a bundle.

^ He's right. No way buy one without warranty. A U.S.-bought car will have warranty honored in the U.S., and if you go this route you'll just have to get warranty work done in U.S. if needed.

And BTW, doesn't Canada have customs duties that make buying a car here almost as expensive as buying it there?

Canada customs cost are only for the cost of the provincial taxes simnilar to your state tax which is 14% plus the difference us$ vs Cdn$ now sitting at 84 cents US.

For a used 2005 RL with 20K miles,is there a history of component failure?

I take it has a good reliable reputation. My present 2002 TL never had any failure with the exception of our famous tranny problem which the dealer covered. So it was reliable as it has 150K and still running great.

There must be other RL owners without warranties out there that can assist.

Furthermore I am not sure if I could get warranty work done in the US as the car would be registered in Canada. Acura US may not honour it because of the cross border Acura Dealer controls would jeopardize the North America Acura Corporate strategies. This is why the sigificant difference in pricing...simply said supply & demand.

I spend two month a year in the US and I am located only two hours from the border. eight hours away form the nearest US Acura Dealer for major breakdown or failures. Other mtce such oil changes, etc.. can be done at my local Acura dealer.

Major breakdown such as power train, nav & electronic components, etc.. could be reason to go to the US dealers if I do not jeopordize or worsen the major failures on the way there.

I hate to say this because I know you like the RL....but if you need to save some C$, why not buy another TL? At least it could be in your price range, and you'd get the Canadian warranty to go along with it.

OTOH, there are plenty of Acura owners who live far away from their dealer, who's the only one in the area, and simply make the trip for warranty service. Seems like too much trouble to me, but it's your money....

Just throwing this out there, could you come back to the US for warranty work?

That is my only solution is to get warranty work in the US but to be honoured I have to use my US address on my warranty registration
