2-3 Shift heistation at Wide Open Throttle.

Hey guys. Im assuming this is not normal but who knows. When Im wide open when the trans shifts from 2 to 3 it seems to have a slight hesitation when shifting, it isnt a smooth transition from 2-3 as it is from 1-2. Has anyone else experienced this? I havent tried it shifting it manually with the paddle shifters. This is just with it in D going WOT

Slow down. You move too fast. You've got to make the moment last.

OK, that one made my morning.

Seriously, I noticed the same. At times it just seems sloppy during shifts. And if you really want to get annoyed, floor it through 90 in manual mode and watch your speed and rpms drop before picking back up.

This has been documented on video on this site in the past. There's a pause and drop in rpms at around 5k rpm in WOT. This is a "normal" thing for this car. Hell if I know what causes it, though.

That second video was to demonstrate one of SH-AWD's more, um, practical uses. It wasn't necessarily idiotic at the time. I remember the thread it was in....

I just watched the video and that is not the same issue I am talking about. What Im experiencing happens immediately after the 2-3 shift when it engages into the next gear, I actually felt it on a 3-4 shift tonight using the paddle shifters as well. Its not that the RPMs drop slightly while in that gear like the video shows. There is a slight hesitation shifting to the next gear, its not a very smooth transition, but doesnt happen all the time, but most of the time.

This is just a wild assed guess.

When was the last time you changed tranny fluid? Every auto Acura I have owned has a less than robust auto transmission, and I have found changing the fluid really helps.

In fact, I am dealing with a rough 1-2 shift in my 2G Legend now, which I also had in my 1G Legend

Car has 75k on it and Im not sure if the fluid has ever been changed. I just picked the car up a few weeks ago. I will change it out and give it a shot.

After owning my 98 CL (with the rice paper transmission), I $hit every time my RL even has the SLIGHTEST hickup or weird shift change.

A little off topic, but I gotta ask........

Is it OK to shift from Auto to manual shift while moving in the RL? IE: driving 65 MPH down the road and shifting into manual, so you can manually downshift to a lower gear and slow down without braking? Im used to driving my RX7, and down-shifting manually, is QUITE normal (at least for that car).

My RL seems to do it fine, but I dont want to shift the tranny like that if its not made to shift from auto to manual while driving down the road at speed. Unfortunately, I LOVE Downshifting! I dont plan on doing it often in the RL, but dont want to mess somthing up if its not made to shift like that.

Thanks!

Yes, you can, it's a feature of the car to be able to do that.

OIC. I concur with the recommendation to change the tranny fluid and then see what happens.

perhaps it is part of the ULEV management? It may be a point when at full throttle, the emissions exceed parameters and the engine management does it nanny thing?
