Guys, keep your disagreement on PM please. Forum members have lives and sometimes these requests don't get done in a timely fashion.

eVTEC, we'll await your DIY whenever you're ready. No worries.

Getting back on track....

I am almost ready to do this mod myself, I think it will make the center console look very sharp, but here's hoping it doesn't get scratched up

I take it you had to shave some plastic off the 12V cigarette lighter? Was that all, or did you have to shave some material off the console pieces in the car as well?

It's cold up here in the North and I want as much info as I can

You also have to shave some parts of the console but it is very minor compared to the trimming of the 12V outlet.

Thanks for the reply. I assume you have the 12V outlet working now without any problems?

I'll order the parts this week, once I get my house refinanced

The 12V would not work without modifying the connector. The connector is too long and will interfere with the opening/closing of the 12V outlet. I am looking for a shorter, or even better, a 90 degree connector to clear the jam, but I am busy with my work right now.

Like I said earlier, I plan to replace my burned out bulb along with the shorter connector when I have more time.

Well, It kinda surprised me, too, that MITIA took the argument here on this thread.

Is it possible to hardwire the two wires to the 12V socket, or do you need the connector? (I haven't seen the entire assembly yet, so I'm just curious).

You can hard wire them. Just make sure you insulate them well so that they do not touch each other, using some kinda of shrink wrap or the like. That is probably what I will do if I cannot find the shorter connector.

I'm about to attempt this mod. First, a few quick questions for those who already did:

1.) Does the wood trim on the console piece match the cup holder? Or do I need to do something special to order two pieces that match together?

2.) I want to verify: "Dark Curly Maple" is the finish that will match the wood trim in my 2006 RL, correct?

3.) I see that the cup holder assembly in Dark Curly Maple has two different part numbers - 77230-SJA-J12ZB, or 77230-SJA-J13ZB (for about $10 more). What is the difference?

4.) Am I correct in understanding that these pieces are direct replacements for the standard, flat black parts in my 2006 RL, but that some modifications will be required to correctly mount the cigarette charger to them?

Thanks in advance for your help :-)

It's my understanding that the power connector (the plug that snaps into the cigarette lighter) will not allow the trim to snap back into the console the way it should. I haven't seen the console from underneath, but it sounds like hard-wiring (bypassing the plug, cutting it off?) would do the trick from what the OP said.

With regards to quesiton #3, I'm not sure about the part # different either, that is very bizzarre!

eVTEC, would you mind posting the part #s you used to order your parts? It looks like we have a parts discrepancy here...

Sorry for the late reply, I am really busy with my work so I don't have a lot of time reading the forum as often.

I still do not have time to hard wire the 12V connector.

I don't remember what parts I ordered for the cup holder, for those who has part number discrepancy, please attach a picture here and I might be able to help with that.

Thanks.

Folks, Rick, otherwise known as "AcuraPartsGuy" on the forum is willing to give us a group buy on the two parts we need. That means a possible further discount past his 20% discount is possible

Who would be interested in a group buy to purchase these parts at a further discount?

Trying to revive an old thread.. I just bought a 2006 RL and this shifter surround needs to be replaced. It would look cool with matching wood per this thread so I interested in knowing if it was worth the effort.

Definitely worth the effort. See the pictures on the first page of this thread.

Thanks for the links, and thanks for your feedback.

I'm weighing the great look and effort of the wood pieces vs. replacing my stock black shifter surround (the front tab on the driver side was broken when I bought the car and it does not stay flush with the other pieces).

Anybody have a stock black one that they want to get rid so I can cover all my options?

Mojo
