'05 RL gasoline

I believe that would degrade performance and eventually may cause problems.
I don't think the penny's saved will be worth it.
Want to save gas? keep RPM under 2k at all time.

That's why the gasoline gets tested. And if you feel your car runs worse than normal you can report the gas station and it will be checked again out of cycle.

I personally have had 3 cars and 93 provided the best performance for me. For that alone I put the higher grade.

I've noticed a pinging going up hills when using 89/87, especially when starting out on a hill. putting in 91/93 solved it. It's about $5 difference per tank for 87 vs 91/93, hardly going to break the bank of anyone who drives this car.

The anti knock sensor should retard the timing when that happens. Is it really bad? Might want to get it checked out.

R=RON, and M=MON, the two methods of calculating octane. Add them together, average them and that is what you see sold at gas stations.

BTW, only some sunoco stations in NJ sell 91, everywhere else that I have seen, it's only 93. 91 is about 3-5 cents cheaper than 93.

Oh not again.
This is a frequent discussion, which always ends in "use what Acura tells you to". Not being harsh, just honest.

Let's put this thing to bed... Ahem...
Can you use lower octane gasoline? Yes. Will it reduce the performance of the engine? Yes. Will it damage the engine? No, sensors take care of this. Will you get the same fuel economy? NO! The engine and command computer will burn more fuel to try and make up for the performance loss.
Final result? No cost savings. Stick with Premium. End of story.

I tried an experiment in my 05: I have run 91 for many years but I had to use mid-grade once. I could not tell the difference in performance and my MPG increased. My journey is 40 miles each way and constant speed, no traffic. I have performed this test on many occasions and asked my fried to do the same. He experienced the same - no performance change and better MPG.
I know this goes against all that is written and the science behind it and I would argue against it if I didn't do the test myself but I cannot refute the findings. All I can say is try it and let us know, one tankfull will do no harm.

400 miles a fill up?? Wow ur lucky i must drive like crap cause i get like 310 per fill up. I only fill up about 4 or 5 times a month though. My girl put 89 in my car once when i let her use it and i felt the difference and asked her what she used and almost freaked out when she said regular. It performs like crap with 89 gas so 93 i a definite all the time.
