05 Acura Rl shifter stuck in park, car won't start.
Hi Guys, I could use your expertise. The 05 Acura Rl shifter is stuck in park and I'm able to release it by depressing the plunger on the side of the shifter. I'm unsure of the component causing this issue.
Symptoms: Car in Park and off; Unable to turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position to start the car. When I move the shifter slightly to the left, I hear a click and the ignition switch works.
Symptoms: Car in Park and running: Unable to turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position to turn car off. When I shift the car into "PARK", I do not hear the driver's door automaticallu unlock. When I move the shifter slightly to the left, I hear a click and the ignition switch will turn to off position and I also hear the driver's door unlock. Could the transmission range sensor be causing this? Thanks.

A bad brake light switch will make the car not start or shift out of park?

Thanks for your support. I can hear a click every time I hit the brakes and the brake lights comes on. It seems like the shifter may not be completely in park (car thinks it's not in park), because, when I bump the shifter to the left when it's in park, I can hear a click, car starts and the shifter works. Any ideas? Thanks.

I also think it could be the neutral safety/ range sensor. Symptoms are kind of similar to the brake light switch.
I also think it could be the shift lock solenoid under the shifter. Thanks for all the comments. I'll post an update when a solution is found.

to eliminate the bad neutral switch is easy, put the car in manual mode and going full throttle and upshift. If your car refuse to up shift then its your range switch.
