If the SHAWD light is on, the car goes into FWD mode. Given that a low battery can trip up that sensor, it does make sense. We have seen a good number of alternator failures though, so do have it checked. Even if it was "just" the alternator, it can kill a battery quickly.

Yea definitely I will have it checked but I have to limp it to my nearest dealer 45 min away

A week into owning my RL i got the "check charging system" message that popped up and it ended up being the alternator was toast. While I was in there I replaced the serpentine belt/tensioner. A little bit of preventative maintenance goes a long way.

I got mine local for $150 CDN from a shop that specializes in only alternators/starters. It's rebuilt but came with a 2 year warranty so I can't complain.
If you go on rockauto.com, I'm sure you could get one for less than $200 US.

As others have said, it's likely the battery - why not get it tested for free at a local auto parts place before schlepping 45 mins to the dealer?? Some of the national auto parts places will also replace your battery for free if you buy it from them. Just something to think about.
