Traction Control Issue?

When going around a corner in snow, without the brake applied, if the front end slips I sometimes experience a noise similar to the tire rubbing against the fender, or a sever grinding of gears that you might expect from the ABS system. Only, that is is much louder and less of a muted sound, and comes from the RF. It lasts less than a second.

Is this some sort of traction control system and could it be working improperly? If only happens on the right front side and doesn't have anything to do with the ABS system.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this normal, or should I have it looked at?

I've experienced it. When it happened to me (only twice), the traction control light on the dash was on - so I assumed it was something to do with that. Can't say if it's normal or not though.
