New 2013 RDX battery drained for no reason

Went out this morning and my brand new RDX with tech package was totally dead. No power whatsoever. Parked last night at 11 pm in the garage. It was in park, auto light function was on but they should shut off with the power.
We cannot figure out what happened.
Had it boosted and ran for 45 minutes. All interior lights were off and we could find nothing amiss once power was restored.

This is a real concern because I do a lot of driving in remote areas since I live in the mountains. Has anyone else had this issue? Other than this I love it and Have had it for 3 weeks with no issues. Into Acura on Monday for a discussion with them so would appreciate any other users with this experience

One possibility is if when you pushed the button to shut the engine off you might have pushed it a second time without realizing it? If you did that it would have gone into accessory mode and discharged the battery overnight.

traceyf.....I am sorry to hear about your battery issue. As others have pointed out, there are few things that may have contributed to your battery going dead (maybe self created) but that being said, I have never had the greatest amount of faith in Acura's batteries. I am aware that these vehicles are loaded with techno gadgets up the ying yang and can take their toll on a battery but I don't trust them regardless.

I bought this gizmo at Canadian Tire (I see you are from Calgary)....CTEK3300 and that things is just amazing! In the winter, my cars don't go out on a regular basis so while in the garage, I will plug the batteries to this device and its total piece of mind that when I want to go somewhere, my battery will be fully topped up. If I do away on vacation or work related trip and will leave one of the Acura's at home (or both)....I'll connect the battery to this to bring them topped up. The beauty of the CTEK3300 is that it can be left on and will not do any damage to your battery.

It often comes on sale for about 40 some dollars.....worth grabbing one if you ever see it on sale.

Thanks weather and everyone

Hi and thanks for the tip weather - will definitely hit crappy tire and pick up the gizmo. We are going to take jumper cables with us on our trip to BC - they fit nicely in the spare tire area. Roadside came and jumped the battery and it's running great. I think my husband pushed the start button twice and that's what happened. It's my main vehicle but he was driving. From now on I will be careful about checking everything is turned off.
This little issue aside I have to say I truly do love my RDX. My 50lb labradoolde fits perfectly in the back and I had 3M put on the back bumper so it won't get scratched when she jumps in. I just installed a Kuat 2 bike bike rack on the hitch. Amazinf rack that swings away somyou can open the hatch even with the bikes on. Unfortunately had to buy the hitch from Acura because aftermarket at half the cost isn't available.
I love the technology and after a week I am using the voice commands with ease. The DVD sounds system is so good I am going to buy some DVDs or figure out now to download. China GRove never sounded so good!
I really resisted getting an SUV because I like a manual and I am small so big SUVs were too hard to get in and out, load an unload, The RDX is the perfect size, however if you need to tow anything or want a hitch mounted rack with 4 bikes you need the MDX as the tow capacity is only 1500 lbs and the hitch tongue weight is 150lbs so the rack and 4 mountain bikes will be too heavy.

Happy driving!

^^^ No problem I'll keep an eye on the C. Tire flyer and if I see it coming back on sale, I'll send you a PM. I am not one to endorse products unless I feel so positively about it...this is one of them.... for me anyway

Hi to all my CANADIAN Acurazine members....I have sent a PM to traceyf but I thought I'd let all of you know in case you are also considering get a CTEK3300 but they are on sale this week at Canadian Tire with a 30$ discount.

I am not one to usually endorse a product but if you want to buy a great little device, this is one to get. I periodically put my TL or RDX on the CTEK3300 in the evening and let the battery go through a full top up and it does the desulfation stage.

weather,

Thinking about purchasing a CTEK 3300, do you attach directly to the car battery? I see that they have a car lighter accessory for easier charging, but not sure that would work with the RDX. I believe the power is disconnected when the ignition is off.

Thanks

JetsJetsJets....I have mine connected directly to the battery. Ideally, if you have a garage, it is easier to get done but its not a requirement. It can be charged even if vehicle is left outside.

What Kuat bike rack did you buy? I am looking at the Kuat Beta which holds 2 bikes.

Thanks

Thanks weather, just another quick question - when making the connections between the Ctek3300 and the car battery, do you disconnect the battery?

^^^ Nope....I leave the battery connected. I connect the red clip to the red pole of the battery, then the black one to the black post. You will see when you get the device that the two connectors that hook on the battery has a little clamp that detaches itself from the main unit...one the two clamps are connected to the battery, then I connect both part of the CTEK3300 together, then plug into the wall, turn the power on and press the cycle button to the "car battery" mode because the first mode is a "motorcycle battery" mode. You leave it plugged in and you will see your battery get properly topped up and also go through the desulphation mode.

Its seems complicated but it truly isn't...once you get it (if you get one), don;t hesitate to send me a PM and if you have any questions I will be more than happy to help.

Battery drain maybe faulty AC unit switch

our new 2013 RDX had the battery die twice in one month. The dealer traced the issue to a bad AC unit switch, which effectively had the fan or some other element of the AC system never shutting off and draining power. They replaced the switch under warranty. They indicated they have experienced this particular issue with other Acuras... hope that helps.

I have a 2013 RDX with tech package that I parked in the garage without driving it since dec 1st due to messy roads. I went to get into it the other day and the battery is FLAT dead. I called the local dealer and he said that I am the 3rd person in a month with the same problem, dead battery after the car had been parked a month. I see that the RDX has been equipped with a new Energy Management System to prevent dead batteries. Doesn't seem to be working....my car is still sitting dead in the garage. I called Acura Canada and they advised having it towed to the dealership. That's my next step.

^^^ If you are going to leave your RDX parked for extended amount of time (like I do with my TL and RDX), I highly recommend a CTEK3300 (trickle charger) to maintain the battery fully topped up. It is the best 40$ I ever spend...this unit is amazing:

Acura has been known with the worst battery in the industry....I hate their battery with a passion!
