Rust on CV axles. Urgent repair?

Hey reader! Had a pre-inspection performed on an RDX '17. Other than the usual wear and tear, the technician noticed rust and paint stripping on the rear CV axles and said they are of concern. He didn't mention anything about the CV boots.

Is this really something urgent or can CV axles last a long time even with some rust? I don't want to spend 2k on repairs after purchasing the car.

Impossible to really know without seeing them, but...everything under a car starts to rust in the northern / rust belt US states. Unless this rust is MUCH more advanced for some reason - I wouldn't worry about it.

Should’ve posted a pic. Here’s one, not sure it it’s clear enough. Also had a friend mechanic look at the pics, he said he’s never heard of replacing CV axles due to some rust, as long as all the remaining components are fine. It did spend the first 3 years of its life in upstate New York.

That just looks like surface rust. Nothing to be worried about.
