When I refreshed my AcuraLink app today I received 6 notifications on issues with my 2018 RDX Tech. I took the car for a drive and no warning lights popped up in the dash. Has anyone else notice this happening with them? Does the app glitch out sometimes?’
I will get a very similar list of notifications if I happen to turn my ILX on without starting it (two button presses with no brake applied). Sometimes I do this to close a window of the moonroof. Going back and refreshing my app, the list of notifications will display. They then go away once I start the car again and refresh the app again though. I assume this is because of all of the indicator lights that will illuminate when you turn the car on without starting it. Seems a little weird and you would think they could "program" that out but they did not for some reason.
The is is what happened to me. I went into the car and got the start button without starting it. I did this a couple times when testing something else. When I refreshed the app, the notifications appeared. The weird thing is I have driven it multiple times since then and have refreshed the app numerous times without the notifications disappearing.
That is strange that they are not going away. Some messages you can swipe to delete but I don't think that works on the priority ones. When you refresh, is the date and timestamp changing where it indicated the last refresh? If you. do not have any indicator lights on your dashboard while driving, there probably is not anything major going on. You could always try deleing the app and re-downloading to see if that helps.
Also, the number for Honda/Acura in car technologies support is 1-888-528-7876 if you wanted to check with them to see what they say. There are sometimes updates for the telematics unit that the dealer can install if things get too persistent. If you are still under warranty (I imagine you are), I am sure they would check into this for you. Weak car batteries can also do strange things to the AcuraLink system.
Yes, the date and time change when I refresh the app. When it works anyway. Not sure if others have problems refreshing. Sometimes I refresh it about 4 or 5 times in a row and can never get it updated. Very buggy app. Anyway; I’ll try removing the app and reinstalling. Thanks for the suggestion.
You are correct about the refreshes, sometimes they take quite a while and other times they just fail entirely. I use the Android version and there are a ton of bad reviews for it but the IOS version seems to have a better following. As far as I can tell these vehicles use a combination of satellite (incoming) and cellular communications. The telematics control unit has a built in cellular radio in it (not sure if there is a common carrier). My 2016 has a 3G radio. Sometimes the slow refresh seems to be because I am in an area where the cell signal is weak. Things update much faster in areas that likely have a better signal. The servers at Acura could also play a part in the slowness. If you are under warranty, it may be worth having the dealer check things out and see if there are any firmware updates that can be done.
I like the feature when it works but it is not a cheap service and I do wish it was more reliable.
