Check AWD...

My check AWD caution light indication came on on my 2014 Acura RDX w/ 8000 km. Weird thing is, it came on when I was driving around the parking lot looking for a spot. Weather conditions were damp and cold but no ice or snow on the ground. Anyone else have this issue? I'm sched for an appointment in a couple of days. In the mean time, the car is running on 100% FWD only until the problem has been resolved. Will keep you guys updated.

I had this happen back in December when I had less than 1000 kms on my '14 AWD. Calgary was going through a bit of a cold snap, -20 highs. After leaving the RDX parked outside for a couple hours, I noticed the same idiot light on my drive home, and it seemed like the vehicle was operating in FWD only. The next day (after leaving it parked in the garage overnight, where it usually sits) the light vanished. Local dealer said cold temperatures can affect various sensors, but what concerned me more was the fact it felt like the AWD system wasn't working (in other words, it wasn't just a sensor issue... at least, that's how it felt to me, might have just been in my head, who knows).

That warning light hasn't made an appearance since.

I referenced the manual regarding the AWD light and apparently when its on it disables the AWD system and runs ONLY ony FWD. My light is still on and in Toronto at the moment is 6 deg celcius. No cold weather at all.. Kinda weird how Acura would blame the fault of the system with cold weather. Sounds like a cover up.

Seems odds that the sensors are fouled by cold weather.

Last week when it was negative 15 in NYC i was getting all types of temp sensor errors on the wheel pressure but awd didn't shut off.
once on highway though and up to speed the air explanded and warning gone.
But cold temps do affect things, its like your factory battery going dead and saying acura sucks but its not rated for -20 etc etc

UPDATE: Diagnosis complete and apparently the fault lead to the aft differential motor pump. Internal wiring check carried out on the motor pump assy. and found a lead with no continuity. Acura ordered a whole motor pump assy, and will be replaced once the part arrives. I hope this is only a one off occurance! Will update once the repair is complete. In the mean time I'm driving around with the AWD light illuminated.

^ cool that they are taking care of you....with little hassle on your end. Don't worry the RDX will be fine in FWD only mode even in the snow

So it's been awhile since the problem occured... just a quick update that all is good now and the AWD issue has been resolved. However, it was a tough snag to troubleshoot. First, the aft diff motor pump was replaced with no joy. Further troubleshooting and with the aid of Honda tech support, aft diff fluid needed to be serviced and pump benched tested to confirm fault. Test drive c/o and fault returned. Another days worth of troubleshooting and confirmed AWD control unit at fault. Replaced, and function check carried out and found the system to be serviceable. I'm glad all this was taken care of under warranty and hats off to the techs and service dept for looking after me.

Hmm, I just had this happen to me yesterday. -25C in Calgary last night. Drove to my hockey game and parked outside for about 1.5 hrs, came out and the AWD light was on. Parked in my garage overnight and it went off when I drove out this AM. I also just hit 1000km on my '14. Think I'll give the dealer a call just to be on the safe side.

There is a known problem with the rear diffs in the 2nd gens. If your AWD light comes on, take it to your dealer and have the code checked. There is a specific code that will set. More than likely, the diff will be replaced. Bulletin or recall to follow.

Anyone else have a problem with this? Have any bulletins been issued about rear differential failures?

I am having problems with the AWL system coming on during dry conditions. It happens making a left turn while taking an off ramp. Previous to this, they had to replace front brake pads as they were falling apart as well as a replacement of the front power steering unit. All of this on a 2013 with less than 20,000 km. The dealer had my vehicle for two weeks trying to figure out the AWL problem. Finally Toronto decided to replace the part (which was back ordered for 3 weeks. Replaced the part and 1 week later the problem is back, so the vehicle is also back.
Can't say how frustrated I am with this.

2013 RDX with 17500 miles

Check AWD system yellow light came on about a week ago. Turn off power off to car, the light will go off. When starting there is no warning light until about 2-4 mins after driving car.

I brought it to a Acura Dealership. Just to see what is wrong was $160 with their computer. An error code of 1858-72 came up. They said it's wrong. It means the differential fluid is low. They had my car for 3 days now and can't fix it.

Last week it was "Check Emission Light" errror. It took them 2 weeks to find out what's wrong. Had a smoke machine and didn't find any leaks. When they put my car back together the emission light went away but another code came up. They had to replace a PCV. Then one week later, No "Check Emission Light" but the Check AWD light came on after 400 miles.

Was told by Acura dealership the wrong type of oil was used in the diffenrential. They drained the wrong type of oil and put in the corrected oil. Still the problem with AWD light error still came on.

Now was told the WHOLE "differential" needed to be replaced. The strange thing they told me ALL differential for RDX 2013 are back ordered. They will not come until Aug 19 2014 to the USA.

If THEY, at Acura, screwed up, THEY must pay for it.

Who did the last diff fluid change? If it was anyone other than Acura the bill should be on you.

I get the impression that most of you work or are associated with a dealership at Acura.

Yes, NO warranty, the warranty is over sadly.

Tell them to provide documentation to prove their position. Also, who serviced your car outside of the dealer? If the dealer did it, you should have your invoice..

something not adding up here.....

Add my car to the list getting new rear diff's.
https://acurazine.com/forums/problem...-light-921064/

When I talked to the service writer I mentioned that I had heard there was a nation wide problem. He called Acura NA and they confirmed it and suggested a warranty replacement of the diff. They are going to call me on Monday and let me know if they can get one. Apparently a new shipment arrives in the states on friday.
