Brake issue - please help...

Hey everyone,

I just joined this site. Looks like everyone is really helpful.

My issue is very similar to YOJCBOY's posting earlier tihs summer. I just purchased my RDX about a month ago and have noticed that when I first take my car out in the morning, there's a slight "creek" sound when I take my foot off of the brake. It's like as of I'm releasing pressure off of something.

And when I stop at a red light, there's a faint knocking sound that comes and goes from the brake.

Both of these sounds disappear when my car warms up after a few blocks. I have a short commute, so it's pretty annoying. I know by the time I drive the car to the dealership, they won't be able to hear it and they'll just say it's normal.

Other than the brakes issue, I really like this car.

Any suggestions? Just keep observing for a while?

Thanks in advance!!

laplap...Can't help you on the cause of the problem without hearing it but I have a suggestion. If you have a second vehicle, could you leave the RDX at the dealership overnight and then go see them when it opens so you can make them hear/feel the problem? It can happen at times that if your brakes are wet and you them overnight that the pads may stick a bit to the rotors and you will hear it when it gets released but it shouldn't happen everytime. Maybe others will chime in but that is all I can provide for friendly advice....If you don't have a second vehicle, maybe the dealer will give you a loaner at the end of the day if you explain the problem.

The only real brake noise I have is when there is moisture and a small amount of rust from the brake pad dust is on the rotors. This wears off after a couple of stops and is completely normal. I have a minor noise accelerating from stop lights, but this is just the hill assist releasing the brake and I believe that this is also normal. Hopefully this is all that you are hearing.

Laplap...I know you are new here but you will likely get some advice to not "double" post in the forum on the same issue. Thsi is actually the proper place to relate your brake problem and I am sure the moderators will be more than happy to consolidate the two threads....Welcome to the forum BTW and congrats on the new wheels What color did you get? Tech or no tech? FWD or AWD?

Weather and Mike hit the two key points. If you're experiencing mild noise right as you start driving in the morning it is likely some moisture on the brakepads. And the hill assist could well be the culprit if you're releasing from a stop.

I did have an issue with some squeal but it was getting progressively louder the more I drove - the dealer couldn't replicate the first time. The second time it was in for 3 days while I had a loaner - they ended up replacing the pads. So far, so good.

Thanks everyone for your helpful advice. Weather, I may just try leaving the car overnight at the dealership.

mikejmack - good idea. I read from the acura website that the hill assist is activated when the car is on a 5% incline. So if my car is on a flat surface, then the hill assist probably won't kick in. Furthermore, I should hear the release sound when I'm stopped on every incline. So weird that these sounds disappear after a few min of starting.

It could be the brake dust.

I'll keep observing....thanks.
