removed intake resonator, A MUST-DO!

That thing is a huge maze, looks very restrictive, anyone took it off and just left the small pipe from the intake box, so that way it doesn't look modded?

I'll give it a shot soon, lots of people say it removes the bog off the line, which I noticed right away when I got the car, I just hope I can remove the resonator without removing the front bumper, and get it out through the fender well.

The factory intake for many Acuras is plenty free-flowing. Removing the resonator should only make noise, but YMMV. May be placebo really but interested in your findings!

Do you have a cutout diagram of the air flow in there? Curious to see how much piping there is in there.

Damn it, I just looked at it good, needs bumper removal to get to it, half of it is showing so if I were to remove it I would need to route a flexible hose to the front to get cold air, then it would be obvious the resonator was removed, seems like a PITA to do. I would love to see a cutout of the resonator to see how the air flows.

Anyone messed with it before?

I'm going to leave it alone for now, just changed the spark plugs and throttle response is good now, I thought before that it was due to a restrictive air flow but it just needed a tune up. Would be nice to see a cutout of the resonator though, just to see how the air flows in there.

I removed the intake resonator, a must-do.

I did it, and to my surprise there was no intake hole in the resonator, it's just a huge plug, that's all the resonator is, WTF!
Took 2 hours to do, put a 3" flexible pipe there (bought it from Pepboys), needs a 3" clamp, and buy fender clips before you start (Amazon has them for cheap, search for Acura fender clips)
Now it moves more effortlessly, noise is pretty much the same, I haven't had the chance to go WOT, I'll try it on the freeway.
Tomorrow, I'll cut out the front piece of the resonator to see how it is inside and also to show an option for those who want to keep it looking stock when you open the hood.

I tried to when I first merged, but my computer isnt playing nice.
I will try again, soon!

I was thinking of adding the word "Completed" to the title.
"Has anyone removed Intake resonator? Completed inside!"

Drove a lot today, sound is good, not noticeably louder than stock, but you can feel the pull and don't need to step on the gas pedal as much as before to move, glad I took it off, crappy, useless design of a resonator that does nothing but take space and block air in, and there I thought Acura was about performance

That's not working, new title explained what I did, obviously nobody thinks I did anything new with the old title, since nobody said anything about it all day.

Here it is, cut in half, waste a waste of design and space, if at least there was a hole in the front, air would get in, but it's just a huge box.

And if you want to keep it stock looking, you can cut the front part off, all the attachment points are still there, or just drill a 3" hole at the bottom of the front part of the resonator while still on the car, that way you'll get air in without having to take if off.

You're the only one "alive" around here it seems. Nobody else gives a crap, no wonder there's no aftermarket anything (CAI, tunes...) for the 2G RDX 🙄

Hey Joe! I am here as well! I have been meaning to comment for a while. Good for you for doing mods on your own, I hate when people say "that is an SUV or that is not a performance vehicle" for whatever car and then bash anyone for trying things. Do you have any sound clips of it?

No, don't need, sounds the same as stock, only difference is it takes less effort to move along, don't need to step on it as much as before.

Good Job

Removing these things on all cars is a good idea if you want to get a little more pep. A K&N drop in always bumps it up a bit too. Still looking for ECU tuning options. I guess most people leave these alone.

pretty much, Honda did not leave any HP on the table. it's a good engine!!!!!!!!
for an Naturally Aspirated engine, a tune will do squat didley! at BEST, you smooth out the power band ever so slightly. MAYBE gain 5hp/tq peak, Maybe.

so, really...THIS is why there is no aftermarket support.
NOT because people dont enjoy modding.

the J-series engine has been in production since 1996.
I have a 2006 6MT TL! one of the sportiest cars with the J-engine. I have modified it with exhaust bits, intake bits, hotrod tricks, and is my RACE CAR!
Now, it JUST isnt feasible to spend thousands and thousands and thousands just to be marginally quicker than the next TL, or in OP's case...the RDX.
this is why people dont mod these cars!
it's hard to extract power from these machines........

and I leave you with my race machine...

Nice to see you decided to be the guinea pig. This is a great mod if you're looking to free up some power. I need to take a look at my buddies CT icebox off his V6 CU2 Acura TSX and see if I can mount it in our bay. I've renoved the resonator on my TSX in the past, Also on my 2014 TL SH but I replaced it with the CT icebox. Both work great.

Even though no one comments, doesn't mean they haven't read your post. There's a lot of lurkers that don't comment but appreciate your work.

Can't believe that in 3+ years nobody took off the bumper to look at it, only takes 15 minutes to take the bumper off, clips and 2 screws is all there is to it, and that was the first time in my life I ever took off a bumper, super easy.

I'm not sure you understand what a resonator does.

It's purpose is to be a dead-ended box. All it does is change the tone, or "resonance", of the system. So by removing it, all you should really do is change the note of the engine. Any additional airflow is probably negligible and not much benefit as the system is choked elsewhere (most likely at the filter).

But good work!

All the intake resonators I saw on my cars before were connected to the air intake tubing, not separately like the rdx where it looks like you have two intake tubes, and yes that resonator is useless, took it off, soud was the same. By removing the resonator, I literally doubled the air going inside the air box, and by having a drop in k&n filter I get the most out of that stock air intake, not bad for a free mod.

I get that you are proud of the work you are doing and it makes you happy, but throwing false aka alternative facts at it is doing no one any justice...

Did you read this post at all? :
