Starter Grind Sound

Hi everyone, I've been having an issue with my 2015 Acura RDX's starter. It's been giving me a few interesting noises when cold starting in the morning. This will happen randomly in the summer (maybe once a month), but more often in the winter time (at least three times a week). I use 0w-20 oil, and change my oil regularly (actually it was time to do it last week!). This sound has been going on for over a year and I just can't figure it out! I've attached 2 sound files, the full speed sound, and a slowed down version that way you can really hear it. Hoping we can identify the issue. Thank you!

To be honest I can't tell by those two sound files. I would definitely check all the pulleys and tensioners though. Make sure the exhaust has no leaks either.

It might help if you have someone start the car while you look under the hood. This way you can isolate noise. LIke Alex, I couldn't tell anything from what you provided.

I don’t think it’s that; the noise you are thinking of is the click of the power steering release.

I’m focused on the grinding right after the engine fires, if that makes sense?

It might sound like normal engine revving, but I assure you it’s not, as on any warm day above day 68, the same startup procedure makes no noise.

As it's gotten colder again, it happens very often now.

I've attached another audio file, of what I deem a normal cold start. I do apologize for the difference in audio quality, I'm unsure how I was able to produce higher quality sounds for this one.

Thank you again for listening!
